The sisters of the Little Rock Metro Area Branch proudly stepped out in support at the American Heart Association Heart Walk! Together, we walked not only for awareness but for life, for healing, and for hope.
Cardiovascular health is deeply personal to many of our sisters. Some are courageously managing heart conditions, while others stand in support of loved ones who have faced similar journeys. This walk was our way of honoring those stories and standing in strength and solidarity.
By participating, we also uplift the ongoing efforts of researchers, healthcare professionals, and advocates who are working tirelessly to find cures and improve outcomes for a wide range of heart conditions.
Every step we took was a reminder: heart health matters, community matters, and together, we are stronger.

Please join us in congratulating our Health and Wellness Chair, Mashauna, on successfully completing the R.O.C.K. Academy hosted by the City of Little Rock!
Through this impactful experience, Mashauna gained valuable insight into the many departments that keep our city running smoothly and effectively. From city operations to community services, she deepened her understanding of how local government works behind the scenes.
Even more inspiring, she explored ways to make a meaningful difference, learning how she can actively contribute to the city’s progress by serving on boards and commissions.
We are proud of Mashauna’s commitment to leadership, civic engagement, and community impact. Her dedication reflects the mission and vision we strive to uphold every day.

The Sisters of the Little Rock Metro Area Branch recently hosted a heartwarming Passing the Pages book drive at Chicot Elementary School, and the impact was truly inspiring. Under the leadership of our Chair, Ashiya, and the dedicated Literacy Committee, students were welcomed into an experience that celebrated the joy and importance of reading. Carefully prepared and thoughtfully distributed, each gently used book found a new home in the hands of eager young learners.
What made this moment so special was not just the books, but the connections created smiles shared, curiosity sparked, and confidence built. Experiences like this remind us that literacy is more than a skill; it is a gateway to opportunity, imagination, and lifelong learning.
This initiative has certainly set the tone for what will become a meaningful annual tradition. Investing in young readers today lays the foundation for a brighter, more empowered tomorrow. 📚

LRMAB HerStory: A Moment in Women’s History

Today we proudly honor Dr. FranSha Anderson, a visionary leader, CEO, and Charter Member of the Little Rock Metro Area Branch of the National Association of University Women. Dr. Anderson was inducted on March 8, 2014, as part of the inaugural group of nineteen women who helped establish the branch, and she immediately stepped into leadership as Vice President.

One of her most impactful memories includes helping implement electronic voting during a Sectional Conference alongside Kristin Knox, an innovation that led to her being selected to support the national voting process at a convention in California under the leadership of Evelyn Wright. Her leadership continued to expand when she was appointed by Vereen as Chair of the Resource Development Committee becoming the first LRMAB member to serve on a national committee.

Dr. Anderson’s passion for literacy and community impact is reflected in her love for the Books & Bagels initiative, a program created by the chartering members to promote literacy and educational engagement among children, particularly within Black communities across Pulaski County. She credits influential leaders like Betty Wilkerson and Dr. Yarbrough for helping shape her understanding of NAUW’s mission and encouraging her to lead with purpose. Through her advocacy work, Dr. Anderson has made a profound impact by championing voting rights, accessibility, and civic engagement, especially for underserved and disabled communities ensuring every voice is heard.

Her message to prospective members is powerful and inviting: “You are an asset and an important piece of the puzzle. Come build, inspire, and walk with us in sisterly love.”

Thank you, Dr. Anderson, for your leadership and unwavering commitment to service, advocacy, and empowerment. 💚🤍

Today we proudly spotlight Sister Mashauna Conley, a dedicated healthcare professional and impactful voice within the Little Rock Metro Area Branch of the National Association of University Women. Mashauna serves as a Certified Surgical Technologist and was inducted into NAUW-LRMAB on December 17, 2024, after being introduced by fellow members who recognized her passion for service and leadership.

One of her favorite memories includes a meaningful outing to the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, where she, along with Sisters Karen Johnson and Danielle Terry, explored African American culture and experienced the beauty of live music, creating a moment of connection, culture, and sisterhood she will always cherish. She also shares that Founders’ Day stands out as her favorite program, highlighting the legacy and purpose that fuels NAUW’s mission.

Mashauna credits Branch President LaJoy Montgomery as a significant influence in her journey, noting how her encouragement helped her grow from being reserved to becoming more engaged and confident in sharing her ideas. Through her work and service, Mashauna has made a meaningful impact by educating the community on health disparities affecting African American communities, using her knowledge to inform, uplift, and advocate for better outcomes.
