Thinking about getting a greenhouse but on a tight budget? So were we! Between trying to coordinate for greenhouse space and getting experiments set up we were looking for an alternative option to have some autonomy with our work.

This self-assembly greenhouse was purchased online for less than $2000 and shipped directly to the Batesville research station. Over the last 3 months we have
1. Laid a gravel foundation and added some cedar retaining walls
2.installed, irrigation,
3. Solar powered fans to move air,
4. In the process of installing additional solar panels to make it almost an entirely self-contained system.

Overall our goal with this project was to create our own research space for forestry, however we also demonstrate a budget friendly greenhouse system under $3000. With the bulk of that price being the greenhouse itself and solar panels/stand.

As we continue to make improvements this project has already completed a first milestone by housing the first of many rounds of sapling oaks looking to decrease planting mortality.

Keep an eye out for additional improvements and price breakdown in later posts.

The state Plant Board on Tuesday voted to approve use of warfarin-containing Kaput products used as feral hog bait ending nearly seven months of deliberation.

Today's Discovery farm tour and county agent training event drew a fantastic crowd, and we extend our sincere gratitude to the speakers, guests, and the Roe family for their exceptional hosting. This program featured a range of topics and techniques including demonstrations focusinging on back to basic forestry techniques, an overview of the Roe Farm's history and operations, a presentation on pond and water quality management, an exploration of drone applications in forestry, an introduction to Arkansas's first longleaf pine demonstration, and a discussion on the benefits of utilizing fire as a management tool.

Please keep a lookout and be sure to join us on our next outing!
