The University of West Alabama’s undergraduate elementary teacher preparation program has received an A+ from the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) for its excellence in preparing future elementary teachers to teach reading effectively.

Beginning Monday, June 1, and continuing through Thursday, July 30, the University will operate on a 4-day workweek, with offices closed each Friday.

During this period, University offices will be closed every Friday, and no classes will meet on campus on Fridays. Limited services will remain open, including the Campus School, University Police, and the Caf. The Fitness Center will operate on an abbreviated schedule.

The University of West Alabama will be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

As we pause from our daily routines, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We are especially grateful for members of the UWA community and families who have been personally impacted by that sacrifice.

As part of the University of West Alabama’s continued emphasis on strengthening institutional communications, marketing, and brand advancement, UWA President Todd G. Fritch has announced the appointment of Betsy Compton as Executive Director of Communications & Marketing.

Compton will continue serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet and leading the expansion of the University’s comprehensive communications and marketing initiatives in support of academic affairs, enrollment management, athletics, advancement, student affairs, and administrative operations.
