Beginning Monday, June 1, and continuing through Thursday, July 30, the University will operate on a 4-day workweek, with offices closed each Friday.

During this period, University offices will be closed every Friday, and no classes will meet on campus on Fridays. Limited services will remain open, including the Campus School, University Police, and the Caf. The Fitness Center will operate on an abbreviated schedule.

As part of the University of West Alabama’s continued emphasis on strengthening institutional communications, marketing, and brand advancement, UWA President Todd G. Fritch has announced the appointment of Betsy Compton as Executive Director of Communications & Marketing.

Compton will continue serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet and leading the expansion of the University’s comprehensive communications and marketing initiatives in support of academic affairs, enrollment management, athletics, advancement, student affairs, and administrative operations.

UWA has selected Dr. Amy H. Jones to serve as its next provost, the role that oversees all aspects of academics at the University. A member of UWA President Todd G. Fritch's Cabinet, Jones has served as interim provost since October 2025, leading Academic Affairs through a period of strategic growth and operational advancement, strengthening academic operations and infrastructure while advancing initiatives focused on faculty support, student success, and experiential learning opportunities. Since joining the faculty in 2007 as an instructor, Jones has advanced through the faculty ranks and held numerous leadership roles, most recently serving as dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

The University of West Alabama and the City of Livingston- Lston,AL are partnering for an infrastructure improvement project through a new federal award of $3.093 million from the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations supported by U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.).

“We are deeply appreciative of Senator Britt’s continued support for our region, and we are honored to partner with the City of Livingston to activate the infrastructure development project that will improve safety, strengthen campus and community connectivity, support future construction, and help position Livingston and Sumter County for new investment and job creation.” - UWA President Dr. Todd G.
