Hello Everyone, The Schoolcraft College Student Activities and Student Relations Offices are partnering with The Livonia Save Our Youth Coalition to produce the annual Mocktail Party featuring The Moving Forward Mini Expo Prevention • Treatment • Recovery on March 16, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.. The gathering will take place in the Student Lounge located in the lower level of the VisTaTech Building. This gathering will provide a venue where students can have fun, enjoy Karaoke and be educated on the dangers of alcohol consumption and other forms of substance abuse and treatment prior to the busy St. Patrick’s Day Festivities.

The student lounge area will be the perfect location to host the following community partners:
• Save Our Youth Coalition
• Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
• Growth Works
• IHA
• Student Support & Mental Health, Schoolcraft College
• Alcohol/Drug Abuse Prevention, Schoolcraft College
• Sanford Behavioral Health
• Hegira Health Counseling Center
• Families Against Narcotics (FAN)
• Schoolcraft Campus Police
• Student Activities Board

See below for the details about the organizations that will be joining us this year.
Livonia Save Our Youth Coalition- We are a coalition of local parents, teens, educators, health care workers, law enforcement, the faith community and substance abuse professionals. We’re all here for different reasons but with a shared mission to educate and empower the community regarding the health and safety of our young people with a focus on alcohol and other drugs.
You could be currently experiencing substance abuse within your household. Perhaps you have personally overcome addiction and want to inspire others. Or maybe you're a concerned citizen just looking to make a difference. No matter where you’re at, there's a place for you here to get connected with education, support and opportunities to help others. We’re so glad you’re here and look forward to meeting you.https://livoniasaveouryouth.org/

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a nonprofit that works to end drunk driving, fight drugged driving, serve the victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking. MADD Michigan serves victims and survivors and offers prevention-based programs across the state. We offer in-person and remote volunteer opportunities in both prevention and victim services. MADD fights for a future with No More Victims.

If You See Something, Say Something

This is the thirteenth year for the Mocktail Party at Schoolcraft College to increase awareness of the dangers of drunk driving and expand with the mission of providing more information about other dangerous substances and treatment options. Attractions at this year’s event will include the following:
• Free Mocktails(non-alcoholic cocktails)
• Root Beer Pong
• Walk the line with Beer goggles
• Blood Alcohol content test
• Visit with community health service organizations

As mentioned earlier, the gathering will take place in the VisTaTech Building lower level, located on the Livonia, Michigan main campus. Our campus is located at 18600 Haggerty Road, between 6 and 7 Mile Road. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Todd Stowell at [email protected] or call (734) 462-4422.

What is the Mocktail Party?
Answer: A safe way to teach individuals the reality of how many drinks It takes to make them unsafe drivers.
1. Participants can get a “drink ticket” at any of the participating sponsor tables.
2. All individuals will be asked to log the time they arrived at the event.
3. Visiting and getting a punch on the “drink card” at each table will represent one drink for the individual who holds the drink card.
4. As each individual leaves, calculate what their BAC (blood alcohol content) level at the designated table with the event computers or individuals can do this on their phones at https://www.calculator.net/bac-calculator.html.
5. Again, visits to the sponsor tables are calculated as drinks(for each location) and participants will plug in the other pertinent information(ie: height and weight) along with length of time they were at the Mocktail Party.
6. Please remember, this is only an estimate and will never be entirely accurate and results may be different when consuming real alcoholic beverages depending on what individuals ate, etc.
7. After or in between completing the assessment, stop by the Walking Taco Table to sign in for the event. We would like to get you more information about upcoming events.
