USU Professor Joe Wheaton, rancher Jay Wilde and, Wildlife Biologist Nate Norman were recently featured in the PBS series Shared Planet (🔗in bio) for their efforts to relocate “nuisance” beavers which helped revitalize parts of the Wilde family ranch by holding more water on the land. 💧🦫🌾

You can watch the series fourth episode “Waters,” which features segments on research in and scientists with the and their work with ranchers and land managers!

Wheaton said the work that Jay Wilde, natural resource agencies, volunteers, students and his team have done has been a catalyst for rehabilitating riverscapes across the United States and in Canada and Europe. 🏞️✨

Have you heard about the Mason Wildlife Exhibit? 🫎
It’s located in the S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney Natural Resources library, where it showcases almost 60 kinds of fish, mammals, and birds from all over North America. All the species that are found at the exhibit were donated by Jerry Mason in 2017.
The exhibit is dedicated to helping increase knowledge and appreciation of the diverse wildlife of Utah and surrounding areas.

Come visit today and learn more about Utahs wildlife 🐾 The Quinney Library is open Monday through Friday from 8-4pm. No appointment required, come and check it out!

At the Quinney College, our students are preparing to take on real-world natural resource challenges through research, collaboration, and hands-on learning 🌎🐟

In Impacts of Dams on Fish, students Elliott Lucherini, CJ Romney, Brinnley O’Brien, Trevor Ward, and Mya Howell explored solutions to help fish ecosystems thrive discussing everything from dam removal strategies to fish ladders and other restoration methods. 🌊🌎🐟

♻️ What does it really take to improve recycling on campus?

Students in ENVS 4700, Jane Greaves, K Leikis, Linnea Onushco, Savannah Ransom and Ella Whitesides, took that question on through a semester long project focused on improving recycling education and awareness on USU’s Logan Main Campus.

After meeting with community partners and gathering input from students, the group identified major gaps in recycling knowledge, and high levels of cross contamination in recycling bins.
