🎓 BTECH Alumni Spotlight: Michael Goeckeritz 🖤

Michael Goeckeritz’s BTECH journey began while attending Rich High School in Randolph, Utah. Starting in 10th grade, he had the opportunity to attend what was then Bridgerland Applied Technology Center — an experience that would help build the foundation for his future career.

Through hands-on learning, interactions with instructors and fellow students, and taking ownership of his education, Michael developed more than technical skills. He learned the importance of structure, accountability, leadership, and continuing to learn — skills he has carried throughout his career.

Today, Michael works alongside HydroFlow USA, supporting industries across the country. He is also an entrepreneur and independently owns and operates his own consulting firm, with a passion for facilities and business management.

When asked what he is most proud of since graduating, Michael points to his independence and his ability to continue teaching himself new skills. His BTECH experience gave him a foundation for knowing how to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges.

Michael also credits the faculty at BTECH for playing an important role in his journey, describing his instructors as supportive, hands-on, and knowledgeable while helping him develop real-world skills that have contributed to his career and success.

His advice to future students?

💬 “Feedback is a gift, positive or negative. Be open-minded when receiving feedback, ask questions, and learn from the situation.”

We’re proud to have Michael as part of the BTECH alumni community and love seeing where the skills that started here can lead! 👏

The Utah Board of Higher Education is now accepting applications and nominations for BTECH’s next president.

Thank you to the students, faculty, staff, alumni, local employers, and community members who shared their input throughout the process. Your feedback helped shape the Presidential Leadership Profile and the qualities the search committee will look for as it evaluates candidates.

Our Building Trades Department students have been hard at work bringing this 30' x 14' (420 sq. ft.) house to life—one step at a time.

✅ Electrical (completed by our Electrical Apprenticeship students!)
✅ Doors & windows installed

Every phase is another opportunity for students to gain real-world, hands-on experience while building skills they'll use throughout their careers. We can't wait to share the finished project!

🎓 BTECH Alumni Spotlight: Caitlyn Whitaker 🦷✨

For Caitlyn Whitaker, a future in healthcare was something she dreamed about from a young age. After learning about BTECH, she joined the Dental Department the summer before her junior year of high school — and quickly fell in love with the dental field.

Her time at BTECH gave her an early start in the industry, helped build her confidence, and ultimately inspired her goal of becoming a dentist.

Today, Caitlyn lives in Salt Lake City and attends the University of Utah, where she is studying biology with a minor in chemistry. Along with being a full-time student, she works as a dental assistant at Murray Orthodontics and Lilac Dental and as a research assistant for the Exploring Living Dinosaurs Lab at the University of Utah. 🧬🦷

Looking back, Caitlyn says every day she came to BTECH, she wasn’t just showing up for herself — she was showing up for her future patients.

Her advice to future students is a powerful reminder:

“Don’t give in to imposter syndrome.”

There were times Caitlyn questioned whether she was good enough or confident enough for the field, but she kept going. Now, she’s continuing her education, gaining valuable experience, and working toward her goal of dental school.

🏆 Congratulations to BTECH’s Teacher of the Year, Jared Sturm! 🏆

Jared, an instructor in our Paramedic Department, consistently goes above and beyond to support his students and help them succeed. 🚑

He is known for providing clear, accurate instruction, being available when students need additional support, and creating a learning environment where students are treated with respect. Jared takes the time to review student progress, provide meaningful feedback, and help students understand where they can continue to grow.

His organization, preparation, and dedication to his students are just a few of the many reasons we’re proud to recognize him as this year’s BTECH Teacher of the Year! 🖤👏

Congratulations, Jared, and thank you for the impact you continue to make on our students and the future of the paramedic profession!

Every challenge is an opportunity to grow—and Josie Hansen has embraced every step of the journey. 🌟

Wanting to expand her healthcare knowledge through hands-on learning, Josie chose BTECH's Medical Department, where she discovered just how much she was capable of accomplishing. One of her proudest moments was mastering the skills that challenged her the most, proving that persistence pays off. 💪🩺

Inspired by her sister, a Medical Assistant, Josie's goal is to become a Labor and Delivery Nurse. 👶❤️

Her advice to future students:
✨ "Push yourself and work hard!"

Along the way, Josie has gained valuable healthcare experience, built lifelong friendships, and developed the confidence to pursue her dream career.
