We are grateful to recognize unit 5700 Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) as this year’s Loma Linda University School of Nursing’s Student Nurses’ Choice Award recipient for Clinical Rotation of the Year, as chosen by our students.

Student reflections consistently point to a learning environment marked by welcome, trust, and meaningful participation. They describe a team that not only demonstrates clinical excellence, but also creates space for students to engage, ask questions, and grow through hands-on experience.

Several students shared that their time on this unit shaped their vocational direction. One reflected, “This is the unit that made me realize I want to work with children.” Another wrote, “They taught me how to truly empathize with family members and give them comfort.” These are the kinds of lessons that extend beyond skill and into calling.

The PICU team models what it means to care for both patients and learners with intention. Their commitment to teaching, collaboration, and compassionate presence leaves a lasting impact on every student who enters the unit.
