Clinical expertise can shape care far beyond a single patient encounter. 🩺

During Clinical Nurse Specialist Week, we recognize Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) and the advanced knowledge, leadership, and perspective they bring to nursing practice.

Through their work with patients, nursing teams, and healthcare systems, CNSs help strengthen evidence-based practice and support the continual improvement of care.

This week, we recognize their contributions to nursing and the patients, colleagues, and communities they serve.

Sabbath helps us slow down enough to remember that we are not alone. In every demanding season, God is present — not distant, not indifferent, but near and attentive.

Zephaniah offers a beautiful reminder:
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.” — Zephaniah 3:17

This is a word of comfort and courage. God is with us in the ordinary moments, the hard moments, and the quiet moments too. Sabbath invites us to rest in that presence and to let His nearness bring peace to the heart.

Sabbath invitation:
1. Take a few moments to sit in quiet awareness of God’s presence.
2. Release one anxious thought or concern.
3. Rest knowing that God is with you and for you.

May this Sabbath bring peace, comfort, and renewed strength.

🩺 NCLEX Question of the Week 🩺

Which client is at greatest risk for developing cancer?

This question is a reminder that nursing judgment depends on recognizing patterns of risk. The best answer reflects the factor most strongly associated with the condition being tested.

đź’ˇ On NCLEX, look for the detail that has the greatest clinical impact and use it to guide your answer.

Sabbath gives us room to remember that hope is still alive, even after difficult days. In nursing, in study, and in service, there are moments when fatigue can make everything feel heavier than it should. God offers something better than exhaustion: renewal.

Isaiah declares,
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” — Isaiah 40:31

Hope is not wishful thinking. It is the steady confidence that God is able to restore what has been worn down. Sabbath creates space for that renewal. It lets us stop long enough to receive the strength that comes from waiting on God.

Sabbath invitation:
1. Reflect on one place where you need fresh strength.
2. Pray for hope to rise in you again.
3. Rest in the promise that God renews the weary.

May this Sabbath lift your spirit and refresh your hope.

⏱️ Summer Study Tip #5: Break your studying into manageable blocks.

Long study marathons often leave us feeling exhausted without retaining much information.

Instead, focus on one topic at a time using short, intentional study sessions with planned breaks. Setting small goals for each session can improve concentration, reduce burnout, and make studying feel more manageable.

Remember: steady progress adds up.

đź’¬ How do you balance studying with work, family, and other responsibilities?

Sabbath is a reminder that trust is stronger than control. For those who care for others, especially in nursing and education, it can be easy to feel that everything depends on us. But God’s wisdom is greater than our own understanding.

Proverbs says,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5

This kind of trust does not deny uncertainty. It simply refuses to let uncertainty rule the heart. Sabbath helps us set down our need to know and our need to manage everything, and instead rest in God’s faithful wisdom.

Sabbath invitation:
1. Identify one place where you have been striving for control.
2. Offer it to God in prayer.
3. Practice resting in God’s wisdom instead of your own.

May this Sabbath deepen your trust and quiet your heart.

🩺 NCLEX Question of the Week 🩺

Which client is at greatest risk for extravasation?

This is a useful question for reviewing vesicant medications and infusion-related complications. It reinforces how important it is to know which therapies can damage surrounding tissue if infiltration occurs.

💡 NCLEX often tests the nurse’s ability to recognize risk before injury happens.

Sabbath is a holy pause that gives the soul room to breathe. In the middle of demanding schedules, long shifts, and endless responsibilities, God’s invitation remains tender and open.

Jesus says,
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

This is not a call to perform better before we are welcomed. It is a call to come as we are. The weary are not turned away. The burdened are not dismissed. Sabbath reminds us that rest is not earned by exhaustion; it is received through grace.

Sabbath invitation:
1. Set aside a quiet moment to be still before God.
2. Name one burden you need help carrying.
3. Receive rest as a gift, not a reward.

May this Sabbath restore your soul and renew your strength.

🩺 Summer Study Tip #4: Connect content to patient care.

Clinical judgment develops when you apply knowledge—not just memorize it.

As you review nursing concepts this summer, picture a patient who might have that condition. Consider their symptoms, your priority assessment, nursing interventions, and patient education.

Thinking through real-life scenarios helps bridge the gap between the classroom, clinical practice, and the NCLEX.

đź’¬ Faculty, alumni, and students: What's one patient scenario that helped a concept finally "click" for you?

Earlier this summer, Loma Linda University School of Nursing faculty traveled to the Adventist University of Africa (AUA) in Nairobi, Kenya, to meet with two cohorts of students in our PhD in Nursing program for three weeks of face-to-face learning, collaboration, and mentorship.

The students represented 14 countries, 15 Adventist institutions, and eight world divisions of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. While pursuing their doctoral education through LLUSN, they continue serving full-time as faculty members, academic leaders, and healthcare professionals in colleges, universities, clinics, and hospitals around the world.

The newest cohort was welcomed with LLUSN Grad Admissions goodie bags, and throughout the session, students and faculty experienced the warmth and hospitality of the AUA community. These moments of learning and fellowship reflected a shared commitment to scholarship, service, and preparing nurse leaders who will continue Christ's healing ministry across the globe.

We are thankful for the partnership with the Adventist University of Africa and for the opportunity to learn alongside dedicated professionals who are making a meaningful impact in their institutions and communities!
