Port Towns have always been tough. And tariffs, Washington, D.C. policy shifts, and unprecedented threats to supply chain certainty around the globe are testing that toughness like never before. It’s enough to make every member of the Southern California supply chain feel alone at sea with uncertain origins and destinations unknown. Fortunately, every Port Town has a lighthouse and resilient teams to stand together to weather storms of uncertainty.

In response to current events and in a show of solidarity with our local Port communities, this year’s Town Hall will take place at Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo High School Auditorium in West Long Beach only a short drive from the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. Cabrillo High School is also the home of the Academy of Global Logistics (AGL), a career pathway sponsored by the Port of Long Beach in partnership with CITT, Long Beach Unified School District, Long Beach City College, and California State University, Long Beach. The coalition of industry and educational partners that have supported AGL students over the last decade reflect Port Town Resilience and the sage words of founding CITT member Domenick Miretti to bring “the university to the docks, and the docks to the university.”

This year’s Town Hall will celebrate the many port community leaders and supply chain stakeholders who have supported CITT trade and transportation programs over the last three decades. The Town Hall will also celebrate AGL students and faculty and present the 2025 recipient of the prestigious Miretti Award, which recognizes a leader who has fostered partnerships along the supply chain, facilitated dialogue, and demonstrated long-term dedication to the industry. The Town Hall will conclude with a panel of experts who will discuss ways that Southern California supply chain stakeholders can, once again, unite to find ways to thrive in these unprecedented and uncertain times. It will be a night to remember!

Members of the Center for International Trade and Transportation (CITT) team are proud of the partnerships we have been able to develop with government, industry, academia, and the broader community. We credit the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) for the strong support it has provided CITT over the last two decades. And it is in that spirit that we strongly support the month-long campaign to fund research and education at The Beach, which culminates with Giving Tuesday on November 28, 2023.

The 2023 CITT Town Hall is tomorrow!

Join the CITT team for our 2023 State of the Trade and Transportation Industry Town Hall at The Pointe on the CSULB campus on November 17 at 7:30am for breakfast and a mission-critical discussion.

Borne out of a need for a forum to resolve port-related conflicts, CITT Town Hall events since 2001 have addressed issues running the gamut from labor strikes to chassis shortages to the impacts of a global pandemic. This year’s Town Hall, “Decarbonization: Truth, Consequences, and Hard Choices,” features a documentary film screening and an expert round table discussion to address ways that California Supply Chain leaders can balance unprecedented decarbonization mandates in the face of an unrelenting American consumer demand for rapid and affordable fulfillment of goods.

After nearly two decades of service at the Center for International Trade and Transportation (CITT), Tom O’Brien, Ph.D., was recently appointed as Associate Dean of the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). During the October 24, 2023 CITT Policy and Steering Committee meeting, CPaCE Dean Chris Swarat announced that Tyler Reeb, Ph.D., who has served as CITT’s Director of the Research and Workforce Development since 2015, would assume O’Brien’s leadership role as CITT’s Interim Executive Director. https://conta.cc/3QDrfjq

The Port of Long Beach is an amazing education partner. This week the Port held its annual event which recognized its scholarship winners including CITT’s . The Port also acknowledged the efforts of the Industry Advisory Board, led by Biju Kewalram, that resulted in the development of a cutting edge capstone project for the 12th grade students in the Academy of Global Logistics at in .
