🌊 Welcome to The Beach Juanita! 🌊

Juanita Cifuentes Gonzalez is a 3rd-year student in the Ph.D. in Economics program at Claremont Graduate University and is from Colombia. She holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Economics from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia. Before starting her doctoral studies in California, she worked as a lecturer for the undergraduate program in Economics at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana for 10 years. Currently, she is also a teaching assistant for the Econometrics I and II courses at Claremont Graduate University.

"My research interests include economics of education and development economics, as well as applied microeconomics. I am particularly interested in studying educational outcomes in developing countries, especially in Colombia. I have actively participated in research projects on this subject and have published findings in international journals such as the International Journal of Educational Development.

This semester marks my first as a lecturer at CSULB, and I am very excited to be here!" says Juanita.

We are so delighted to have you here and excited to learn from your expertise and experience! Go Beach! 💛

We are excited to present the first part of our Econ Interdisciplinary Series! Consider how a degree or minor in economics can boost your job marketability when combined with your degree.

We will share disciplines that overlap with economics, such as international studies, and the courses that apply to both.

Combining International Studies with Economics can open doors to jobs abroad in journalism, business, financial aid/planning, and politics. You may also apply these critical thinking and analytical skills as a social scientist or advocate for international happenings.

Stay tuned to see if your major overlaps with economics or suggest how it can in the comments!

Filipino American History Month in October commemorates the first Filipinos to arrive in the continental United States at what is now Morro Bay, California on October 18, 1587.

Today we are highlighting Bernardo Malvar Villegas, a Professor at the University of Asia and the Pacific.

He is currently a member of the boards of directors or advisory boards of leading national and multinational firms and is a consultant on management development and strategic planning for numerous leading firms operating in the Philippines and Asia Pacific.

Through his work at UA&P and CRC, he is often asked to give advice to top government officials in many policy issues, especially in industrial policy and countryside development. He was a member of the Constitutional Commission that drafted the Philippine Constitution under the government of former President Corazon Aquino.
