Celebrating the Legacy of Cultural Humanities on the Coast and Our 15 Year Commemorative Plaques from National

Recently five members of the Gulf Coast chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, participated in the organization's international Convention/Conference in New Orleans (March 29-April 1). Acceptance to present at the conference is highly competitive and our members were selected from an international pool of submissions.

The Gulf Coast presenters include Chapter President Joseph Boeckmann and Secretary Madison Valentine shared original fiction "Technical Difficulties" and "The Hummingbird Princess and the Crow Princess," respectively. Public Relations Officer Roxana Glass and Kirstyn Folmer presented creative nonfiction pieces "I Am a Survivor" and "Dorkfish and Vroomburg," respectively. Tamara Shows presented on the Common Reader for the year, Jesmyn Ward's Salvage the Bones, in her piece "Wolves of Oppression."

This was a tremendous turnout by the Coast chapter and congratulations to all these members on their accomplishment. Dr. Damon Franke serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Gulf Coast chapter of Sigma Tau Delta at USM, and we extend our gratitude to Dr. Franke for his support of these students.
