A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure of hosting an insightful panel featuring Mark Halushka from the PIHRA Long Beach Chapter Board of Directors, Cynthia Velasco, Senior Business Partner at USC Viterbi, and Richard Hedges, former Talent Acquisition Specialist at Metro One.

We’re so grateful they took the time to share their experiences and offer valuable advice on real-world HR challenges:

✅ Navigating ADA requests and balancing legal obligations with ethical decisions
✅ Handling tough conversations like layoffs and returning to the office post-COVID
✅ Emphasizing the importance of clear policies and transparent communication

They also broke down how HR data helps guide smarter decisions:

✅ Tracking turnover, performance scores, and exit trends
✅ Using metrics to improve recruitment, training, and employee engagement
✅ Understanding financial and cultural impacts through analytics

Another major takeaway was the role of AI in HR:

✅ Use AI ethically to support, not replace, the human side of HR
✅ Leverage it for resume building, data analysis, and predicting future needs
