Thinking about earning your EdD but wondering how you’ll balance it all?

Linda Sehlmeier G'27 shares how the support of faculty, the connections within her cohort, and the program’s clear structure helped her succeed while continuing her work as a literacy coach.

❓What is your favorite thing about this program?
🗨 My favorite part of the program is the option to complete the degree through the accelerated 36-credit track while still feeling fully supported throughout the process. The faculty and program directors created a clearly defined path and were consistently available, responsive, and encouraging, literally whenever I needed them. Their genuine commitment to student success helps keep students on track and move forward with confidence.

❓What is something unexpected that you’ve gained from this program?
🗨 One unexpected outcome has been how transferable the learning has been to my day-to-day work. Although the program is not specifically focused on literacy, I have remained fully engaged in my area of expertise while deepening my understanding of systems, collaboration, and organizational support. This has directly influenced how I approach my work as a literacy coach and how I support teachers.

❓Advice to students who are considering the BPU EdD
🗨 My advice would be to stay organized, trust the process, and take it one class at a time. In all honesty, the workload is significant, but the clear structure and strong faculty support make it possible. Focusing on one class and one deadline at a time helps. You are supported every step of the way. I also encourage building relationships with others in your cohort, as they will become an important source of support for both course assignment clarifications and encouragement from people who can empathize with what you are going through.
