CSOs are still patrolling the campus and the Residence Halls during the Covid-19 emergency period. Walking es**rts are still available from dusk until 1am, by calling (310) 794-WALK(9255).

Students act as the "eyes and the ears" of the police department. We do this by offering walking es**rt services, van pool rides, building security, residence hall patrol, bike patrol, dispatching, and much more! Our application is currently live and we have open interviews all throughout next week 9/30-10/4!

Today, August 20, we'd like to congratulate former CSOs Brandon Young and Fabiola Leon on their graduation from the Police Academy. Tomorrow, they will be sworn into service as Police Officers at the UCLA Police Department. We couldn't be prouder. Good job!

Occasionally, we get asked what CSOs do in emergencies. For most campus emergencies, CSOs will be asked to set up a perimeter around the affected area, allowing only qualified personnel into a dangerous scene. However, when CSOs are the first responders, in response to someone else's call, they will typically assess the situation, update dispatch on conditions as they find them, and usually clarify the exact location. Then, some of the responding CSOs will help guide other responding units to the exact location of the event. And, then they will help set up a perimeter.

The CSO Programs is having an information table about our services this Thursday, April 11, in the Covel Commons lobby, from 5-8pm. We'll also be handing out and accepting applications, and conducting on the spot interviews. We're looking to hire 25 more CSOs this quarter, to help protect UCLA students, staff and faculty.

The last few backpacks stolen in the Residence Halls were taken by non-students who begged for a swipe from a resident. They then ate a meal...and stole a backpack from the rack on their way out. Argh.
