We are proud to celebrate Lori Gaboudian, soon-to-be , who graduates summa cm laude after an exceptional USC journey shaped by research, service, and leadership. She presented at the USC Undergraduate Armenian Studies Research Symposium, interned with the National Association of Women Judges and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, and served as president of the USC Armenian Student Association. Named after Armenia’s Lori Province, she brought a strong sense of purpose and identity to her work at USC.

Reflecting on her time at Gould, she shares: “My experiences at Gould solidified my passion for law and confirmed that law school was the path for me.”

Hear more from Lori:

Q: Which class, professor, and/or experience at USC Gould stands out as the most memorable and/or influential during your time here?

A: LAW 350 – Law & Entrepreneurship with Professor Chasalow stands out as the most memorable and influential class during my time at USC Gould. It was so interesting because Professor Chasalow brought an incredibly engaging teaching style that made complex legal concepts feel accessible and genuinely exciting— it never felt like we were just studying law in the abstract, but rather learning tools we could actually apply. This class changed the way I think about the intersection of law and business, and it's one I'll carry with me long after graduation.

Q: How is your major and/or minor going to help you with your career and future plans?

A: Throughout my time in the Gould Undergraduate Law Program, the classes, professors, and experiences I've had along the way solidified my passion for law and confirmed that law school was the path for me. The program has also helped me identify and strengthen key academic and personal skills, from reading and writing, to research and public speaking, that I know will serve me well going forward. The introduction I've received to what a legal education and career can look like is unparalleled, and I'm proud to be continuing that journey as an incoming J.D. Candidate at USC Gould School of Law!

Graduating magna cm laude, Nathan Castillo will also be recognized at the USC Student Recognition Awards, where his resilience, leadership, and commitment to community impact were hallmarks of his time at . As Nathan prepares to begin his J.D. this fall, he reflects: “This degree has confirmed my passion for law and community advocacy.”

Hear more from Nathan:

Q: What is a fun fact about you?

A: I survived cancer.

Q: Which class, professor, and/or experience at USC Gould stands out as the most memorable and/or influential during your time here?

A: LAW 300 with Professor Mark Haddad stands out as the most memorable and influential experience during my time at USC Gould. His approach to teaching case law made what can often feel like dense and inaccessible material genuinely engaging and digestible.

I came to understand the reasoning, context, and broader implications behind landmark decisions. Whenever I approach a Supreme Court case now, I find myself drawing on the analytical tools developed in that class to break down the Court's logic and situate the ruling within the larger legal landscape.

Q: How is your major and/or minor going to help you with your career and future plans?

A: My degree has provided me with a strong foundation for my future in law by bridging theoretical legal knowledge with real-world application essential for legal practice.

The degree opened doors to transformative experiential opportunities including internships at the Los Angeles Superior Court and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, where I was able to apply what I learned.

My involvement with the USC Journal of Law and Society as an Associate Editor further sharpened my skills, while my leadership role as Director of Internal Outreach for Latino Students in Law allowed me to advocate for a more inclusive legal community— a value I plan to carry into my career.

This degree has confirmed my passion for law and community advocacy, and I'm confident it has prepared me well for the next chapter: pursuing my J.D.

A: I studied Mandarin for 12 years.

Q: Which class, professor, and/or experience at USC Gould stands out as the most memorable and/or influential during your time here?

A: Taking Business and Entrepreneurship Law with Professor Chasalow was one of the most impactful experiences of my time at USC Gould. The course not only taught foundational principles of business law, but also walked through the process of building a business from the ground up and how to effectively protect clients at each stage. This practical, real-world approach sparked my interest in corporate law and ultimately shaped my decision to pursue a career in the field.

Meet soon-to-be Lisette Nevarez from the BS in Legal Studies major at .

Graduating summa cm laude, Lisette has been recognized for her exceptional legal writing and commitment to the field. Her capstone research project earned a University Discovery Distinction— placing her among USC’s top undergraduate researchers. She will also be honored at the USC Student Recognition Awards.

At Gould, she found her passion for legal thinking and research, crediting the program with shaping her path toward a future in law. As she looks ahead to law school, she reflects: “Once you see all of the ways the law touches everything around you, you cannot stop seeing it and you fall in love even more.”

Hear more from Lisette:

Q: What is a fun fact about you?
A: I won the comical classmate superlative in high school.

Q: Which class, professor, and/or experience at USC Gould stands out as the most memorable and/or influential during your time here?
A: Picking just one is nearly impossible, but the capstone course is the clearest proof of everything Gould built in me. Getting to take everything I have learned and distill it into my own body of research alongside Professor Campbell and my peers was something I never imagined I could do at the undergraduate level. We all collaborated, teased out each other's ideas, and walked away with our own unique work that reflected everything we have learned during our time here.

Q: How is your major and/or minor going to help you with your career and future plans?
A: I had no idea how my experiences and interests would shape the way I think legally until I got here. Getting to develop that part of my mind before law school, surrounded by supportive faculty who have mastered it and peers who are figuring it out right alongside me, has been the best thing I could have done for my future as an attorney. I came in already confident in my career path and I am leaving even more so. Once you see all of the ways the law touches everything around you, you cannot stop seeing it and you fall in love even more. Gould flipped that switch in me and for that I am forever grateful.
