It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our fraternity brother, Maurilio A. Leรณn, on February 23, 2024. Maurilio was a member of the Gamma Chapter of Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity since the Fall 1994.
While at UC Berkeley, Maurilio made a huge impact on the LatinX community at Cal. Among the many roles he performed, he notably served as the Operations Coordinator Raza Recruitment & Retention Center (now known as the Raices R&RC). Maurilio was chosen as one of the speakers at the Raza Graduation for the Class 1997 and obtained a Bachelorโs Degree in Political Science. He was also selected to be a member of the Order of the Golden Bear. Then Maurilio went to graduate school at Harvard University and received his Masterโs of Public Policy from the John F.
Kennedy School of Government.
Maurilio had a successful and poignant career in the public, private and non-profit sectors. He worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, the City & County of San Francisco, SF Assessor & Recorderโs Office. Maurilio was in many leadership positions through his career including as the Vice President of the Unity Council, and the Chief Operating Officer at the Community Housing Opportunities Corporation, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation.
Maurilio grew up as child to a migrant farmworker family in Chico, California which is a community and experience that he never forgot. His experiences drove him to give back to underserved communities. Maurilio accomplished so much in his life and serves as an example of a brother of Gamma Zeta Alpha we all strive to be. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Leon family in this time of unexpected loss.
We love you Maurilio.
Si se pudo hermano.
Respectfully,
