New shoes day for Speak 4 Silent Voices kids, actually a bunch of them are teenagers now 😢 I feel so honored to have seen these great young people start off as little ones wanting an education and they are now thriving and heading toward bright futures. We already have 2 in college! And many more on the way. Thank you so very much to all of our sponsors for offering these kids a chance to choose their own path for their future.

It’s that time of year again with Speak 4 Silent Voices kids in Kolkata. Actually it’s a random time of year for them to all get new uniforms but due to COVID schools were closed for nearly 2 years for the younger classes. Briefly schools opened and then closed a few months back for older grades. Now finally all of our kids can return to their classrooms. All our growing boys and girls have outgrown their old uniforms during this pandemic, but they can finally put on new ones on and be with each other again. The pandemic was particularly hard for populations like those our children come from where they live in small crowded rooms with little space. Thank you to all of our sponsors for sticking with us through this pandemic, our kids are still thriving thanks to your generosity and love.

These photos are a little late bc we were having some Amazon India challenges but thank you so much to everyone who helped brighten up the days of our kids in Kolkata with gifts for the holidays. We are all super grateful. I haven’t been able to visit due to COVID so the kids have missed out on the toys and clothing I usually collect and bring each summer so these gifts were very special and appreciated.

I am so proud of Sabrina, Speak 4 Silent Voices first sponsored student to begin studying in university. When I started the non-profit 11 years ago I dreamed of helping give these children their own dreams of having bright futures. Futures where they did not have to struggle like their parents had for basic necessities and human rights. In helping make Sabrina’s dreams come true our amazing sponsors also helped make my dreams come true. We are so proud to continue to extend our sponsorship for our students through university. I have spent 11 years going back and forth from India running Speak 4 Silent Voices. India is my second home and my first love. It’s hard to know that while I am safe and comfortable the people there are struggling so much in this pandemic. Thankfully we can help. My good friend Chandan Singh who runs Sujata Child is delivering oxygen and supplies to people in need. Please donate what you can to help. It costs roughly $35 to fill one oxygen tank that can save a persons life. Thank you so much!

Sadly, I am not able to be in India with Speak 4 Silent Voices families right now, but my heart is there with all the amazing people I know and love. India has some of the smartest, most compassionate and strong people I know. I feel so sad that I cannot be there to help, but if I were I am afraid I would not know what to do. They need vaccines and oxygen. These are things that due to supply shortages even the most money cannot access. My prayers and thoughts are with the people of India. If you are there and need help please message me and I will help however I can.

Speak 4 Silent Voices founded Sia’s Breakfast Club in memory of Sia Van Wyck, a remarkable little girl who lost her life at just 7 years old. Sia’s kind and adventurous spirit lives on in the children who get nutritious meals because of those who love and honor her by supporting Sia’s Breakfast Club. These children live in slums in Kolkata and would otherwise face hunger. Sia was an amazing little girl who I know would be proud to be helping children across the world.
