“For me, what is special about , is that they give us a place to be Jewish on campus. Where perhaps in other facets of our lives we might feel unsafe or unwelcome as Jews, give us a place to just be – to exist and be Jewish – among friends and in a community of respect, acceptance, and warmth.”

“Coming from a Jewish town to a Catholic school, has allowed me to still have my Jewish community at school. I can’t go home for holidays so I am able to practice all the holidays at which means a lot to me as I am able to continue practicing Judaism even away from home. has also allowed me to make really good friends here with similar backgrounds that I can count on as a support system.”

Shalom friends,
I recently met with Mikey, a wonderful student, person, and Lion (Go Lions!). He told me about the project he is working on and I thought I would share it with you. He could use some support. Here are the details (thank you to those who support my friend Mikey Benor):

To whom may care enough to act,
my name is Michael (Mikchael) Yitzchak Benor and I am an Israeli film student at Loyola Marymount University. I also teach Hebrew at Redondo Beach's Temple Menorah. Inspired by the Temple's theme of Tikun Olam, along with a team of dedicated filmmakers, we are creating a social justice themed documentary film about Venice's homeless pianist, Nathan. The film, titled, What Happened to Nathan, follows the aging artist's present day struggle to find a piano while telling the riches to rags story of how he went from a promising musician (who opened for The Doors and toured with Iron Butterfly in the 70's) to becoming a homeless musician.

Where do you come in?
Nathan's piano doesn't only serve as his livelihood but also as his home during the cold nights. Recently, Nathan (67 years old) observed that his piano is on its last days. So, we're trying to obtain a new piano for him... and a new home.
If you have, or know anyone or any foundation that might have, a baby grand/grand piano in the greater L.A area that you or they are willing to part with in order to bring some much needed Tzedakah to this fellow human in a time of desperation, please contact me at:

or
917-744-8630
Please take into consideration that since this is a time-sensitive issue, we are hoping to find or fund the piano within the next few weeks, hopefully with minimal transporting costs since we have a micro-budget.

If you don't have a piano in mind, but would still like to help with another form of Tzedakah, you can visit the film's GoFundMe page or contact us to see if you'd be interested in supporting our cause in any other way.

Any help will be tremendous to this project and to the cause at large. We firmly believe that if this film reaches the right audiences, it will help bring inclusion and diversity into the forefront of public, religious, and artistic discourse.
B'ezrat HaShem and B'ezrat your help, we will ensure it has a happy ending in which Nathan finds a new piano and home.
Toda raba for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Mikchael and Nathan

Hi, thank you for caring enough to listen to our message! INTRO: Nathan is Venice Beach's homeless piano man, he's 67. His piano is not only his sole livelihood, but also the shelter he sleeps under year-long, come rain, wind, or winter. THE NEED: Recently, Nathan has been troubled by the fact...
