Colony History:
The brothers of the colony at California Alpha-Epsilon came together as an interest group on February 5th, 2011. The journey to colonization started with three young gentlemen of Loyola Marymount University who had a common desire to make a difference. These desires lead them to independently, without knowing that three others were doing so, contact the national committee of expan
sion of Sigma Alpha Epsilon in hopes of bringing a chapter to LMU one day. As interest in expansion was sparked by these fine gentlemen, an Interest Group organically formed into a group of diverse young men with a passion for excellence. We had the determination to become an NIC Fraternity in order to make an impact not only in Greek life, but campus and community life as well. The SAE Interest Group of LMU men was founded on the ideals of friendship, community service, and scholarship with a mission to infuse passion and leadership into the men in order to form a group where they could not only grow as individuals but, as the ideal True Gentleman. The brothers formed brotherly bonds through all the various activities that were taken on during the time as an Interest Group. The Interest Group participated in every sorority and fraternity philanthropy on campus, participated in feed the hungry every week, traveled to Mexico for De Colores, won intramural championships, went on retreats, and much more. Most importantly, the Interest Group set an unprecedented standard for what a group of men should strive to be; it is a group of special men who bring together their talents and passions to form an energy that positively affects the community around it and in the process forms a brotherhood that lasts eternally. Unfortunately, even with all of these extraordinary strides, the LMU administration decided not to bring a colony of Sigma Alpha Epsilon to campus (June 2012). They did note that our group of men is very special but, they felt it was in the best interest of the campus to bring two other fraternities to campus, respectively. Ultimately, SAE Nationals decided our group was too passionate to give up on and allowed us to colonize off campus―our interest group had grown from a few founders to thirty-five founding fathers all on our own merit. The Alpha Epsilon Colony of Sigma Alpha Epsilon officially came into existence on October 13th, 2012 at Occidental College. Since, the colony has become ever more active with its service efforts, spurring missions to skid row and participating in tutoring services for public schools in Los Angeles. The Alpha Epsilon colony is an official active colony of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and is on its way to becoming an official chapter.
