On Wednesday, December 2nd 2020, Billy Bodin who is the President of the TESOL Society, will be offering a one hour Lit Review Workshop on Zoom!⁣

This will be a great opportunity for you to meet the TESOL Society board members and to interact with and learn from other students in our amazing program!⁣

Billy is in his last semester in the TESOL program and he is looking forward to helping current students by providing very useful information about Lit Reviews and answering any questions that anybody has about the program.⁣

🌍 Cultural diversity is a wonderful thing! ⁣

Whether you work abroad or you work with international students in your home country, you need to be prepared to understand culture and cultural differences. As an ESL/EFL teacher, you will have students of all ages from countries all over the world in your classroom! ⁣

An important aspect of diversity in the classroom is the way in which your learners may have different preferred learning styles. Our MA in TESOL program at Cal State LA offers courses to help future teachers appeal to different cultural backgrounds, learning styles, and motivational levels. ⁣

Here is a great memory from last year when our professors and some of our graduate students traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the TESOL International Convention and English Language Expo!⁣
⁣
Bahiyyih, Lia, Sharin, Denise, Undraa, Hitoshi, and Brian enjoyed learning and networking at this fun event that has something for just about everyone due to its large number of sessions. There were almost 1,000 to choose from!⁣
⁣
Over 5,000 educators from over 110 countries attended last year!⁣
⁣
We cannot wait to pack our bags again when it is safe and travel to another wonderful event!⁣

We loved Sharin Jacob’s presentation at CATESOL this year!⁣
⁣
👩‍🎓 Sharin received her MA in TESOL from Cal State LA and she is currently a PhD in Education Candidate at the University of California Irvine.⁣
⁣
👩‍🏫 She has 4 years experience teaching high school English as a Second Language to multilingual students, including at a New Arrivals Center in which she taught sheltered math and science newcomers. ⁣
⁣
💻 She also has experience teaching MA in TESOL students Methods for Teaching Second Languages as instructor of record at Cal State LA.⁣

We are very proud of our students, Kerry Fogarty and Abigail Sider, for doing an excellent job at CATESOL this year! ⁣
Their topic of Examining Unconscious Bias was very interesting and everybody who was present really enjoyed listening to their ideas and advice.⁣

Conferences offer many opportunities to network with other professionals in the industry and we encourage all students to attend and present so that they can make meaningful connections with educators from all over the world. ⁣
