Today, on EMS Remembrance Day, we honor the memory of EMS professionals who gave their lives in the line of duty. Their dedication, sacrifice, and service to others continue to inspire the EMS community and all who follow in their footsteps. At the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care, the legacies of medics Derrick Schiller, Ryan Sorek, and Mitch Sekine continue through scholarships supporting future Paramedic students. We remember their contributions with gratitude and extend our appreciation to all EMS providers who continue to serve with courage and compassion every day.

Communities become stronger and safer when more people are prepared to respond in an emergency. On Save-A-Life Day, we encourage everyone to learn CPR, bleeding control, and other lifesaving skills that can make a critical difference before EMS arrives. UCLA is proud to partner on a Los Angeles County-supported initiative to expand Stop The Bleed training for teachers throughout the county, helping bring lifesaving education directly into our communities.

APPLY NOW! The New York State EMS/PCRF Research Workshop is June 23-25 in Manhattan, NY. The workshop matches participants with clinical mentors, methodologists, and statisticians to accelerate EMS research with the goal of improving community health and safety through the power of data. During the three-day intensive workshop, participants will learn the basics of EMS research, refine research ideas to assure that the question/goal is clear, explore required data elements to determine viability and define the data query. This free workshop is ideal for students, educators, clinical leaders, and front-line clinicians, with innate curiosity and an itch to launch their next (or first!) research project. Don’t miss May’s Clinical Journal Club, as we take on a simple but important question in modern resuscitation: when machines take over CPR, does the type of device actually matter? Mechanical CPR use continues to grow across EMS systems, but not all devices are built the same. Does one design actually lead to better outcomes, or are we just splitting hairs between two versions of the same tool? We’ll unpack a large retrospective study of more than 38,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients comparing plunger-type and band-type mechanical CPR devices. We’ll dig into the data, the design differences, and what it means for equipment decisions, training, and high-performance CPR in the field. Register now! https://ow.ly/Io5850YV1qY
