HEY EVERYONE!! 🤩✨

To kickstart our 2022 ambassador spotlight series, we have the one and only instant ramen lover 🍜😩, salt and vinegar potato chip fan (specifically Ms. Vickie’s) 🥔, Koala whisperer 🐨🌱, and Star Wars’ and UCLA sports’ #1 fan ⭐️☄️🌠, Jacob Lee (he/him/his) who is a third-year Communications major from Granada Hills, CA!! 🙌🏽🤩

This is Jacob’s first year in BAP, but he has made such a huge impact with his outgoing and caring personality that makes the entire team feel like a family. He never fails to put a smile on everyone’s face with his encouraging attitude, and we are so thankful to have him in our lives. Outside of BAP, you can find Jacob listening to Valley, MAYBE, and Park Bench 😌❤️‍🔥. And after finishing undergrad, Jacob wants to pursue a career in Sports Marketing! 📈🏀🏈

We are incredibly lucky to have Jacob a part of our family, and we are just as proud to share his story with you. Without further ado, here is what Jacob has to say about BAP:
-------------------------------------------------------⠀
📚 What is one thing you wished someone told you before going to college?

“One thing I wish I heard from others before going to college was that college is the time to make mistakes. The college years are super transformative and the mistakes you make now won’t affect you as much compared to later in your life. Not saying to go and be reckless, but don’t be too hard on yourself for when you slip up during these four years.”

🐻 Why BAP?

“I decided to apply to BAP because of a similar role I held in high school. In high school, I was a Magnet Program ambassador and my responsibilities included taking prospective families and students on school tours, sitting in on panels talking about the magnet program, and traveling to local middle schools to encourage students to apply. After hearing about BAP and the work that they did, I was super eager to apply knowing I was already familiar with the responsibilities of Bruin Ambassadors. Plus, I would be doing this for the greatest university in the world!”

Stay tuned for more ambassador spotlights!🤩

It's time for another 🎉Senior Shoutout!🎉

Today, we're so excited to highlight Harmonie Ahuna, a graduating BAP senior majoring in Human Biology and Society with a minor in Education Studies. During her time at UCLA, Harmonie has also been involved on campus as a site coordinator and board member in Together Educating and Advocating Community Health (TEACH), a campus intern with Teach for America, and a member in the Pacific Islands Student Association (PISA)!

"My favorite things about UCLA are amount of opportunities available for students to take advantage of. Every year I've been able to grow and learn more about myself and the impact I want to make through taking part in various organizations and internships.

My favorite thing about BAP are the students who make up this organization! We all have a unique set of interests and involvements but everyone has a passion for increasing pathways into UCLA and higher education. I am constantly inspired by my co-workers!

While I've gained numerous professional skills through BAP, one of the biggest things I've learned is that the barriers in college access are deep and pervasive. BAP taught me a lot about our education system and the issues that exist within it, motivating me to want to impact these after I graduate.

This Fall I will continue to work within the field of education as I begin my career with Teach for America. I will be working towards my Masters in Education while serving as an elementary teacher in Hawai'i to support and empower students in their pathways through education. "

Congratulations, Harmonie!! You will be so greatly missed, but we can't wait to watch you soar! 💙💛

Hey Bruins! Time for another 💛Senior Shoutout!💙
Today, we'd like to highlight Leonor Magallon, a BAP senior with a Sociology and Anthropology Double Major! During her time at UCLA, Leonor has also been involved in Hermanas Unidads, the Latinx Admit Committee, and UndocBruins.

"My favorite thing about UCLA is reflecting back and seeing how much I have grown in so many ways. Freshman me would be so proud!

My favorite thing about BAP has been the amazing people I have met and the friendships that have been created. BAP has taught me that I have truly found a passion in college advising and college accessibility. I struggled so much knowing what I wanted to do postgrad and BAP has been such a huge eye opener for me! I'ved learned so much about UCLA and the college application and the different resourced available so students. I hope to continue doing similar work as I do now in BAP because it has been so rewarding

Happy Week 9, Bruins! It's time for another 🎉Senior Shoutout!🎉

Today, we'd like like to highlight one of our amazing coordinators, Megana Sekar! Megana is a BAP senior and Political Science major with a minor in Global Health. During her time at UCLA, she has been involved with the Pediatric AIDS Coalition in the Family Relations and Public Relations committees, as well as Student Media, first as a Daily Bruin writer/editor and then on the ASUCLA Communications Board!

"UCLA has given me so many academic, professional, and social opportunities! I honestly had no idea what to expect moving from New Jersey in LA, but I have truly loved my four years here. I have met the most amazing people from all walks of life and I have learned so much inside and outside of the classroom. UCLA's supportive community and spirit will always inspire and stay with me!

BAP has been the highlight of my college involvements. Every time I talk to prospective students, I'm reminded of how happy and grateful I am to be here at UCLA. Working a BAP event or simply talking to another ambassador about work or life never fails to brighten my day! Ambassadors are truly a special group of people- not only is everyone passionate about sharing their love for this school and higher education, they also make the absolute best friends!

This program has taught me so much- I grew my confidence and leadership skills so much, and I learned how to work independently and stay accountable. Becoming a coordinator, especially right before everything became virtual, has taught me how to roll with the punches and create lots of lemonade out of lemons!

After graduation, I will be working before going to law school!"

We will miss you so much, Megana! Thank you for all of the hard work that you've helped BAP accomplish through the years! 💙💛
