This weekend, the UofL Women’s Alumni Council spent time with the West End Women’s Collaborative! Each of us painted our own bricks for the Paint your Legacy initiative that will be added to the Peace Labyrinth outside of the ELA House, which is a free and inclusive gathering space.

The WEWC works to unite community through healing art, empowering workshops, and meaningful connections.

We had an incredible time reflecting, learning and being in community with everyone that attended this event!

Thank you so much for hosting us in your beautiful space West Louisville Womens Collaborative!

Check out this month's UofL Women's Alumni Council Spotlight!

Each month, the UofL Women’s Alumni Council will spotlight a UofL alumna and celebrate the great things they are accomplishing! Whether you are an alumna based in Louisville, across the US, or abroad, we want to share your story and continue staying connected with our Cardinal community.

This month's UofL Women’s Alumni Spotlight features Tomeika S. Reeves ’01, ’05!

Tomeika earned her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology with a Minor in Pan-African studies in 2001, and her Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) from the Raymond Kent School of Social Work at UofL in 2005.

She became a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the state of Virginia in 2015, then transferred her license upon return to Kentucky in 2017. She is now licensed in the state of Indiana as of 2021. She carries and maintains a number of certifications and trainings to better support clients in need of better emotional health and healing.

Tomeika is a psychotherapist/mental health counselor for an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) where she serves as the principal therapist at a local university in Louisville, as well as her private practice, Leavell Counseling, LLC.

She enjoys spending quality time with quality people, meditation/quiet contemplation, reading, shopping, volunteering and laughing.

“I am an active and passionate member of my illustrious sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,” Tomeika said. “My personal and professional goals are similar, and they are in a constant state of growing and changing the atmosphere and culture of all that I encounter. To elevate and motivate and to be elevated and motivated, by the presence of an ever-evolving society. To leave every space with newfound insight and information. To make an impact and to be impacted in a positive manner.”

Happy New Year, Cards! Each month, the UofL Women’s Alumni Council will spotlight a UofL alumna and celebrate the great things they are accomplishing! Whether you are an alumna based in Louisville, across the US, or abroad, we want to share your story and continue staying connected with our Cardinal community.

Our first UofL Women’s Alumni Spotlight features Sara Thurston, PhD!

Sara Thurston came to the University of Louisville in the Fall of 1992 to start her undergraduate degree. She received a B.A., Spanish and Art History, in 1995 and then stayed for her M.Ed., Counseling and College Student Personnel, which was awarded in 1998. She later completed a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at Loyola University Chicago (2009).

Sara originally grew up in a small town in Wisconsin and came to Louisville as an out-of-state student. She was very involved on campus in everything from residence life, marching band, to lots of student organizations.

Sara has worked in international education her whole professional career and currently serves as the Director of International Student and Scholar Services at Kansas State University. She is passionate about traveling and experiencing new cultures, loves being a mother to her daughter, Frida, and is very involved professionally in NAFSA: Association of International Educators. She is excited to be connected with her alma mater on the UofL women’s council.

Happy Women’s Equality Day!
The UofL Women's Alumni Council had a blast celebrating over the weekend with the Louisville Metro Office for Women and other organizations in our city working towards gender equity. This year’s event theme focused on our right to vote!

We loved connecting with UofL Alumnae and listening to their thoughts on voting. Shout-out to UofL Alumna, Laura Douglas, CEO for West End Opportunity Partnership, on her panel participation and insight on women and voting! And congratulations to Gretchen Hunt on her award for bringing women across our city together to collaborate and push gender equity forward!

Get out and vote! Go Cards!
