McConnell Center Founded in 1991 to develop Kentucky's next generation of exceptional leaders. The McConnell Center was founded in 1991 by U.S. Chao Archives.

Senator Mitch McConnell and University of Louisville officials as a nonprofit, nonpartisan department. Every year, the McConnell Center offers tuition scholarships, travel opportunities, and liberal arts enrichment seminars to 40 McConnell Scholars; administers a public lecture series focused on American history and contemporary issues; coordinates civic education programs for Kentucky's social studies teachers and students; and oversees the U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and Secretary Elaine L.

From 1998-2019 (with a few exceptions!), each class of McConnell Scholars traveled to China in the summer between their junior and senior year.

This week in McConnell Center history, from May 4-8, 2003, McConnell Scholars made their first trip to Mecosta, Michigan to visit Piety Hill, the home of American writer and thinker Russell Kirk. Since then, the Center has taken dozens of students to Mecosta to participate in intellectual retreats and conferences on a variety of topics. The trip has become a much-loved component of the McConnell Scholars experience.

📷 This week in McConnell Center history, on May 4-8, 1998, sophomore McConnell Scholars, Dr. Paul Weber, Ms. Sherry Allen, and Dr. Landis Jones traveled to Washington D.C. for an enriching educational experience.

This picture was taken on May 7, when Scholars visited the White House and the Canadian Embassy. Scholars also visited with Senator McConnell and other representatives on the Hill.
