Growing up, Ka’Lynn Johnson served as emergency contacts for family members, coordinated family events and marshalled needed resources for food and transportation. She didn’t know it then, but this was ideal training for a social work career.

"As a Kent School of Social Work and Family Science - University of Louisville graduate, I am proud to be part of a 90-year legacy that values service, advocacy and community transformation. My journey has not been easy, but it has strengthened my commitment to becoming a future licensed clinical social worker who leads with empathy and courage,” she said.

LaRoya Allen has been interested in marketing and entrepreneurship most of her life, launching her first business enterprise while still in elementary school.

This month, she graduated from the UofL College of Business with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, a minor in entrepreneurship and a certificate in sales. She overcame many obstacles and encourages anyone struggling to get help and push through.

“If I could talk to someone who is in that position, I would tell them, ‘Don’t give up. Keep pushing. Keep trying. It’s OK to cry, wipe your tears and get back up. Just don’t give up.’”
