Sustainability Council's Cards Commuter Challenge is rolling! Pedal with the Provost kicked off the 2026 challenge with a 4.5-mile bike ride from Amelia Place through Cherokee Park’s scenic loop.

The casual ride led by Provost Katie Cardarelli and the University of Louisville Sustainability Council encouraged Cardinals to get outside and enjoy community through physical activity while highlighting environmentally beneficial travel.

The Cards Commuter Challenge runs through Sept. 30. Cardinals log alternative commutes by riding buses, carpooling, cycling or other means to cut back on personal emissions. By entering more commutes, participants compete with others to win prizes. Learn how to enter the challenge at UofL News!

As another heat wave hits the local region this week, the University of Louisville Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute, in partnership with TreesLouisville, has released results and recommendations in this 2026 follow-up study that analyzes Louisville’s tree canopy and urban heat island.

"We need to do things that matter in people's lives. This study is one example of how our work can have a direct impact on the health of our community," said Aruni Bhatnagar, director of the Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute.
