We are pleased to announce the opening of applications for the new Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Nanomedicine, a collaborative graduate program offered by the Bioengineering Department (Speed School of Engineering) and the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology (School of Medicine).
This innovative program integrates bioengineering with pharmacology and toxicology to prepare future scientists and professionals for work at the intersection of advanced biomaterials, nanopharmaceuticals, and translational medicine. It is intended for students seeking careers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, as well as those preparing for professional programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, or bioengineering. Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in a science-related field, such as biology, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, physics, or a health-related discipline, and meet the minimum GPA requirements (overall GPA ≥ 3.0 and science GPA ≥ 3.0).
The curriculum offers students the following:
• A comprehensive foundation in nanoscale bioengineering and advanced biomaterials design
• Core competencies in nanopharmacology, encompassing biophysical characterization, biodistribution, clearance, and pharmacokinetics of nanodrugs
• Essential translational nanomedicine concepts, including immunology and nanomedicine interfaces, immunotherapeutics, extracellular vesicle-based therapeutics, nanotoxicology,
and principles of nanomedicine manufacturing and regulations
Students may tailor the program to their career goals through elective courses in toxicology, biomedical acoustics, mechanobiology, and machine learning. This is a 30-credit-hour program designed to be completed within one year (three semesters).
Program Directors:
• Dr. Hermann Frieboes, Department of Bioengineering
• Dr. Joshua Hood, Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology
