Cornell University just sent us a reminder that they have a scholarship available exclusively to members of PTK. You're also automatically considered for all need-based fellowships/scholarships if you apply as a transfer student. You'll find there are many scholarships exclusive to PTK members, so keep that in mind as you consider your transfer options.

Hey Phi Theta Kappans! If you'd like to help out the local chapter but really don't have time for meetings, consider joining our Honors in Action research team! We're looking for anyone who is willing to help track down information (sources, primarily academic) for a research project on competition across the lifespan. If you're interested in joining our group, please email Ryan Keen ([email protected]) for more info.

Thinking about getting more involved in PTK? In addition to our community service projects, the Honors in Action research project is starting to gear up. The HIA project is a semester long examination of the "culture of competition". Contact Ryan Keen ([email protected]) for more information.

From Wednesday April 17th through the 19th, we will be conducting online elections for the next set of officers to help lead our chapter, but we first need to identify potential nominees. Our outgoing team of officers have won multiple scholarships and awards, and have benefitted from the recommendations they have received as a result of their service, and so can you!

Interested in becoming an officer? Send an email to [email protected] no later than 11:59 pm on Friday, April 12th with:

-your name
-the position you’d like to be nominated for
-a brief statement about why you’d like to seek the position, and
-a picture of yourself (optional)

The open officer positions are:

President
The Chapter President is involved in helping to plan and organize the activities of the chapter. He or she does this by presiding over meetings, appointing committees when necessary, serving as a member of committees, voting on PTK business (in the event of a tie), and representing the organization at PTK events.

Vice President
The Vice President is also critical to operations of the chapter, and performs the duties of the President in his or her absence. In addition, they may take roll at meetings and coordinate committees if necessary.

Secretary
The primary role of the secretary is to maintain records of the meetings and keep a record of the chapter functions. The secretary may also submit press releases or coordinate with MCC staff on sharing news about PTK events and activities with the wider student body.

Honors-in-Action Chair
This officer will help lead the chapter’s efforts related to the Honors-in-Action project, a yearly, action-oriented project focused on providing opportunities to do research and apply learning related to a theme determined by PTK. This years’s theme is “the culture of competition”. Other PTK officers do not traditionally serve on this project in order to allow them the time to focus on other events.
