Charles S. Peirce International Young Scholar Award!

The Institute for Studies in Pragmaticism is happy to introduce this year’s Charles S. Peirce International Young Scholar Award recipient, Lenka Vojtíšková.
Lenka is a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Her dissertation focuses on the philosophical roots of Julia Kristeva's notion of intertextuality and its social and political implications. Her research interests include psychoanalytic theory, theories of subjectivity, and philosophy of literature.
With her paper titled „(Im)material Language: Revealing Body through Metaphor, “presented at the International Semiotic Summer School in Prague, Lenka showed remarkable scholarly courage by choosing originality rather than conformity.

The Institute for Studies in Pragmaticism is accepting abstracts for "Biological and Artificial Minds," a session hosted at the APA Central Gatherings Conference. This year's session aims to synthesize a holistic model of the human mind and its relation to the brain.

We invite abstract submissions from disciplines such as philosophy, psychology, biology, neuroscience, and other related fields.

Josiah Royce was among the most influential American philosophers of the early 20th century. Much like Charles S. Peirce, Royce was entangled with many different subjects, including English, engineering, psychology, and of course, philosophy. While he personally studied philosophy under the fathers of pragmatism, C. S. Peirce and William James, Royce ultimately considered himself an absolute idealist. His beliefs led to him developing ideas of human loyalty, unity, truth, and will, eventually extending into religious themes.

In "The Problem of Christianity," Royce describes the idea of representation and knowledge from a Peircean perspective, expressing the influence and alignment of Peirce's theory of signs in the context of religion. Using themes similar to the system of semeiotics, Royce explains that both representation and knowledge are continuous processes rather than static.

The value of experiencing lies in the beautifully incessant evolution of life.
