Where did rowing start for you? Dallas, Texas, with the White Rock Rowing Club
What’s your Major? Graphic Design with a certification in UIUX
What made you choose Texas Tech?
I chose Texas Tech because of the opportunity it provided for me in graphic design. It gave me the exact path I was looking for in UIUX.
How long have you’ve been rowing?
I actually only been rowing for a year, but that year lead me to Nationals. A height I had never imagined, but worked hard for. Most people don’t start rowing until college, so if you’re nervous or scared about joining, don’t be! We will teach you!
What do you love most about rowing? I love the obvious progression that can be seen as you move through the sport. You can see and feel yourself get better. I love the competition and camaraderie in the sport, where all friends are rivals, and rivals are friends. Meaning on the boat, we want to win and it’s all about you and your team. On land, however, it does not matter what club or school you’re rowing for, everyone is friendly because we all love the sport and want to see it grow. Especially here in Texas.

Interesting fact about yourself?
I’m a 9th and 10th generation Texan. My family came over from the Canary Islands in the early 1700s and they also fought in the Alamo.
Best advice I’ve ever received?
“If you run into a problem or make a mistake, freak out for 10 minutes, then find a solution.” Meaning we’re all going to run into obstacles and it’s okay to freak out for 10 minutes, but after that, find a solution. Don’t live in the problem, live in the solution.
