Homecoming is almost here!

Alumni, students, and community members are invited to join us for our annual Homecoming Parade Watch Party from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 16, on the HHS North Lawn! Then stay for the parade, which kicks off at 6 p.m.

Come enjoy live music, yard games, free food, and swag as we cheer on the parade and celebrate together. It’s a family-friendly event, so bring the whole crew!

Gabrielle Odunuyi was always busy: classes, volunteering, peer education, and a part-time job as a certified nursing assistant. Then a new Texas Tech class changed how she defines wellness.

As a dual-degree student in human sciences and nursing, Gabrielle enrolled in CARS 2310, part of the TechThrive initiative, where she learned that wellness is far more than exercise or meditation. The course explores eight dimensions of wellness and invites students to reflect on where they're thriving and what they've overlooked. For Gabrielle, that meant realizing she was so focused on academics that she'd forgotten to "go outside and touch grass."

Now on her way to becoming a psychiatric nurse, she's carrying those lessons into nursing school and into the career ahead.

This week, as Opportunity Days brings students, alumni, and employers together and we celebrate 40 years of the School of Financial Planning, we're taking a moment to recognize someone who helped build so much of what this program has become: Dr. Dottie Durband.

In 2001, Durband co-founded Red to Black, one of the first peer-to-peer financial counseling programs in the country—a model that's since inspired similar programs nationwide.

Her influence runs even deeper: she built a curriculum on empathy, communication, and technical skill that has shaped a generation of financial planners.

As the School of Financial Planning - Texas Tech University heads into Opportunity Days this week, we're taking a moment to look back at how last spring's Career Days in DFW changed the game for their students.

What started as a bold move out of Lubbock turned into 100+ interviews, firsthand tours at firms, and internships that led to job offers.

The results spoke for themselves—Spring Career Days 2027 is already confirmed to return to DFW using the same immersive format.

Big news for Texas Tech's fashion family!

The Texas Tech University Apparel Design & Manufacturing program has found a new home in the Department of Hospitality and Retail, and faculty on both sides say it's less a merger and more a long-overdue reunion.

The move opens the door to bigger research projects, expanded internships, and a more industry-ready degree for students.
