Big congratulations to faculty members Michelle Alcorn and Allison Childress, named 2026 Headliner Award winners by the Lubbock Association for Women in Communications!

These two are on a mission to make healthy eating actually doable for people living with diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol—or all three at once. Their platform, sam™, delivers personalized meal plans tailored to real medical needs, while their Culinartistry program gets people into the kitchen with hands-on nutrition education.

What started as frustration with a gap between what patients are told to eat and what they can realistically manage has grown into something that’s catching attention well beyond Lubbock. And the best part? They’re just getting started. 👏

Our Hospitality and Retail Management - Texas Tech University students experienced an incredible 3-day corporate field trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth area — and it did not disappoint!

From touring the stunning Omni PGA Frisco Resort & Spa and Hilton's Reservation & Customer Care center, to exploring 7-Eleven's corporate mock store, visiting H-E-B Plano, and stepping inside Neiman Marcus's corporate office — students got a front-row seat to some of the most dynamic brands in hospitality and retail.

Students came away with real career insights, new professional connections, and a clearer picture of where they want to go. As student Katie Glover put it: "I learned so much about these businesses and what I want my future to look like."

Big thanks to all the incredible companies who opened their doors and invested their time in the next generation of industry leaders.

Exciting news from Texas Tech University Department of Nutritional Sciences!

Two faculty members — Professor Sergej Ostojic and Professor Shariful Islam — are coauthors on a paper accepted by the journal Nature. The research examines obesity trends on a global scale and is exactly the kind of high-impact work we are proud to see coming from our department.

Professor Ostojic joined the department in February 2026, and Professor Islam also joined recently. Having two new faculty members contribute to a Nature publication so early in their time here says a great deal about the strength of the department's growing team.

Congratulations to both! 👏

The College of Health & Human Sciences mourns the loss of former faculty member Dr. Janice Beth Boyce, whose impact on students, colleagues, and the field of culinary science will be felt for generations.

During her distinguished career at Texas Tech, Dr. Boyce combined scholarship, mentorship, and compassion in ways that shaped both classrooms and lives. Her work in food safety, consumer behavior, and culinary science reflected a deep commitment to excellence and to improving and enhancing the human condition.

More than an educator and researcher, she was a trusted mentor, thoughtful colleague, and passionate advocate for her students. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in knowledge, generosity, and care for others.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, former students, and colleagues as we honor her life and contributions.

“Design has the power to improve lives.”

For Spring 2026 Banner Bearer Josephine Krueger, interior design is about far more than aesthetics — it’s about creating spaces that shape human experience, preserve stories and serve communities.

Inspired by rebuilding her childhood home after Hurricane Ike, Josephine turned a life-changing experience into a passion for design, leadership and service. Now, as she graduates with a Bachelor of Interior Design and prepares for an internship with Perkins&Will, she leaves a lasting mark on the College of Health & Human Sciences.

Join us in celebrating Josephine and all she has accomplished as a Red Raider and read her full story linked in the comments.
