The Silver Key Club was originally founded at Texas Tech University in October of 1929. In the spring of 1953, with the tireless efforts of John Harding, Silver Key became the Texas Epsilon Chapter of Phi Delta Theta founded on the three cardinal principles of friendship, sound learning, and rectitude. Since then, Phi Delts have been involved on campus and around Lubbock in student organizations,
intramurals, and community service. Texas Epsilon boasts 33 Intramural Blanket championships and 18 Student Government presidents, more than any other fraternity at Tech. Texas Epsilon has also bred men such as Wes Welker, Josh Abbott, Tio Kleberg, Clifford Jones, Mayor Dan Pope, Chancellor Robert Duncan, Congressman Jodey Arrington, and Bill Dean. As Dr. Dean likes to say: "the names change, the faces change, but Phi Delta Theta at Texas Tech is constant."
