Study Abroad Spotlight! Some of our graduate students are participating in a semester abroad in Spain with faculty member Dr. Comfort Pratt. In a recent trip to El Real Alcázar in Seville, Debbie shared a few photos and her experience so far on her study abroad journey.

"One part of the program that is especially insightful for me is the experience of being a student in a language I am still learning. I have a new appreciation for the mental load involved in spending hours each day intensely focused on what is being said, as well as for the teaching methods used to ensure we understand course readings. Of course, another key piece is the travel! We have just returned from a weekend in Andalucía which was an amazing experience. The Moorish architecture and influence is unlike what we see in Salamanca and was breathtaking!"

Today, Governor Abbott announced a historic $750 million investment to expand the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) — strengthening efforts to recognize, reward, and retain outstanding teachers across Texas.

We are proud that research conducted by Texas Tech University, College of Education researcher, Dr. Jacob Kirksey, Associate Professor of Educational Policy, helped inform this statewide investment.

This is what it means for research to move beyond journals and into action — producing evidence that shapes policy, strengthens schools, and impacts the lives of teachers and students across Texas.

Today is a powerful reminder that the research coming out of the College of Education matters.

What an incredible day with incredible people! This year we celebrated and recognized over 500 teachers from 55 districts at this year's Get Your Teach On.

We want to take a moment to thank the Get Your Teach On team and presenters for helping our educators feel encouraged and supported, the ESC Region 17 team for helping host this event, Toot'n Totum for providing our attendees with snacks and refreshments, and, most importantly, we want to thank our teachers. Whether you were able to attend or not, we are so thankful to each and every teacher. Your hard work and dedication to your students does not go unnoticed. We would not be here without you! 🤩

Addressing Critical Gaps in Women's Health and Aging Research 🧠

Dr. Jaehoon Lee was awarded $49,912 for a five-year project from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-National Institute on Aging - NIH and the University of Kansas Medical Center. The project seeks to address critical gaps in our understanding of how criminal legal system involvement (CLSI) influences health across the life course and shapes women's experiences of aging.

Through this research, Dr. Lee aims to better understand how women with CLSI define health in later life, what they need to age well and how CLSI functions as a social determinant of health. It requires collaboration, support, resources, and connection. Findings from the study will help inform strategies to promote healthier aging and advance health quality for women.

Hola de España! The Advanced Application of AVID elective course students are in Spain for a Maymester where they are completing a placement in a local school!

In between their field placements and classes, they toured historic sites like the Royal Palace & Cathedral, the Alhambra in Granada, the Mezquita in Cordoba, and even attended a Flamenco lesson!
