At OLLI Texas Tech, we are fortunate to collaborate with TTU faculty who share their expertise with our OLLI students. Faculty like John Barnes, assistant professor of practice in the department of TTU Forensic Science, fuse academics with field experience to create a one-of-a-kind OLLI course.

Easter Floral Design:

Celebrate spring in this hands-on Easter Floral Design class. Participants will explore seasonal blooms, color harmony and basic arranging techniques while creating a festive Easter centerpiece. Guided step by step by an experienced instructor, students will learn to design with fresh flowers and spring accents. Perfect for beginners and flower lovers alike, this relaxed, creative class includes all supplies and fresh materials—just bring your enthusiasm for springtime design. Cassie Sanders is a project and partnership specialist with the Texas State Florists Association. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from West Texas A&M and is an American Institute of Floral Design and Texas Master Florist.

Back for Round 3: Introduction to Chess:

With over 800 million players worldwide, chess has captivated inquisitive minds since its origin in India around 600 C.E. Today, the game remains so intricate that fewer than 1,500 grandmasters actively compete. This course offers a comprehensive introduction to chess, covering its rich history, the board and the pieces, along with essential game principles. By the end, you'll gain an appreciation for chess’s depth, along with skills to play competitive games with family and friends. You may even feel inspired to join tournaments or pursue lessons to advance further as a player. Registration is for all six sessions. Jeff Day ranks in the top 15% of all chess players in the United States. He teaches Introduction to Chess at Texas Tech.

Dates: April 1 - May 6, 2026, (6 Wednesdays excluding May 6th)
