Founded in 1942 and originally known as the Division of Commerce, the college has grown exponentially over the last 75 years. Rawls contributed a record-breaking cash gift of $25 million to the Texas Tech University College of Business Administration, officially renaming the college to Jerry S. Rawls College offers undergraduate, graduate and executive education focused on academic rigor, creative thinking, hands-on learning and service opportunities in order to prepare a diverse student body for successful careers as leaders, managers, executives and innovators in their chosen fields.

Join us for the 2026 Buesseler Lecture Series featuring John Henderson, president and CEO of the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals.

Henderson will present “Stand Tall for Small,” a discussion focused on the evolving healthcare landscape in Texas and the challenges facing rural communities. The lecture will explore workforce shortages, healthcare access, financial and operational pressures, demographic trends, and the growing impact of social determinants of health on communities across the state.

The Rawls College of Business wrapped up its Fall 2026 Career Fair with a strong turnout from students and employers, creating a day centered on connection, preparation, and opportunity.

This fall, 1,857 students connected with representatives from 139 employer booths to explore internships, full-time positions, and career paths across a variety of industries. In preparation for the fair, the Career Management Center reviewed 2,158 resumes, hosted 394 appointments, conducted more than 100 mock interviews, and provided more than 500 professional headshots.

The opportunities continued beyond the fair, with more than 300 next-day interviews helping students take the next step in the hiring process.

Thank you to the employers, students and Rawls College of Business Career Management Center team who helped make the Fall 2026 Career Fair a success and continue to support career readiness across the Rawls College.

Last week, the McCoy Family Speaker Series brought together ranching families, industry leaders, and community members for an important conversation about succession, leadership, and preserving a family legacy.

Hosted by the Alderson & Griffin Center for Family Business & Entrepreneurship, “Ranch Succession: Lessons, Lived Experiences, and Stories of Continuity from the Family Business of Ranching” featured Mark W. Kirkpatrick of Stoker-Kirkpatrick Ranches LLC, John and Bonnie M. Welch of Welch Cattle Company, and Jody and Betsy Bellah of Bellah Cattle Co. Jim Bret Campbell, executive director of the National Ranching Heritage Center, moderated the conversation.

The discussion centered around keeping the family in the ranch, and the ranch in the family. Panelists shared firsthand experiences navigating generational transitions, preparing the next generation for leadership, and balancing ranching traditions with the realities of running a family business.

The event also marked the launch of the Families in Ranching Succession Toolkit, providing families with additional resources to help navigate conversations and decisions surrounding succession.

Congratulations to two of our 2026 Rawls Distinguished Alumni & Awards honorees!

Texas Capital will receive the Distinguished Partner Award in recognition of its continued support of education, workforce development, and opportunities for future business leaders across Texas.

John Keith, chairman of the board of Promerica Bank, will receive the Innovation Award for his leadership across banking, business, and international education, including his role in establishing Texas Tech University–Costa Rica.
