When Jesus Becomes Lord… He Calls You to Serve.
In John 13:1–20, Jesus takes the place of a servant and washes His disciples’ feet. Knowing what was ahead of Him, even knowing Judas would betray Him, Jesus loved His own to the very end.
The King of kings knelt down to serve. The One who holds all authority humbled Himself, taking the lowest position and showing us the heart of a servant. This was only a glimpse of the humility He would display on the cross.
Jesus didn’t just come to give us an example of humility. He came to cleanse us from our sin. Just as He washed His disciples’ feet, Jesus took our sin upon Himself and bore the wrath we deserved. Through His sacrifice, death, and resurrection, He made a way for us to be washed clean. We cannot earn salvation through good works or service. We must receive the cleansing only Jesus can give.
So what does it mean to call Jesus Lord? It means we follow His example.
Jesus calls us to lay aside our pride, put others before ourselves, and serve even when it means taking the lowest position. Sometimes that looks like meeting a practical need or doing the unnoticed things that put someone else first.
We serve not to earn His approval or prove our worth, but out of love and devotion to Jesus, because He first served us.
When Jesus becomes Lord, we humble ourselves, serve others, and go where He sends us.
The question is not simply whether we are serving, but why. Are we serving to be seen or to prove something? Or are we serving out of love for the King who humbled Himself for us?
May we never become so focused on serving that we forget the Savior we serve. Receive His cleansing, follow His example, and be willing to go low so that others might see Him through you.
