The Smithfield Learners to Leaders Program-Robeson Community College

The Smithfield Learners to Leaders Program-Robeson Community College The program will assist students in grades nine through twelve with a comprehensive series of leadership workshops along with academic and social support.

The Learners to Leaders program provides for very early identification of and supporting services to disadvantaged and underrepresented high school students insuring graduation and successful enrollment in college. Students will have access to laptop computers and Internet connections, will be assigned a “Virtual Mentor” and will be exposed to the real world of business and industry through guided

field visits to nearby industries such as the Smithfield Foods Processing Plant, Muller Steam and other businesses. Leadership seminars will be provided quarterly covering subjects such as small business, industry, government service, higher education, teamwork, time management skills, good study habits and public speaking and will be presented in age appropriate and dynamic formats. As students gain exposure to business and higher education throughout the school year, they will select a career or college program of interest to research and report to fellow students, their families, their mentors and to business professionals through a portfolio presentation at a yearend banquet.

Tristons tumor is not cancer. He will be taking chemo treatments every Friday for a year at Chapel Hill. Please continue to keep him in your prayers

UPDATE ON TRISTON LOWERY - Could not remove his tumor Friday. They got enough for a Biopsy. They will know whether it is cancer or not Thursday. Will keep you updated.

UPDATE ON TRISTON LOWERY - He is at UNC Chapel Hill Children’s Hospital. He went into surgery around Noon. Talked with his mother about 3:15 pm; doctor had just spoke to her. Surgery is going better than they anticipated.Continue praying for him. He should be out of surgery and recovery about 8pm. Will keep you updated.
