🕵️‍♀️ Calling all UMaine Machias sleuths! 📸

Merrill Library is rolling up its sleeves to uncover, organize, and preserve the story of UMaine Machias—and we’d love your help!

In September, Library Coordinator Meg Colbert teamed up with Richard and Elsie Larson and Darlene Wheeler to identify people and places in a newly gathered batch of photos. Their memories helped connect the dots in ways we never could have alone—exactly the kind of community detective work that brings history to life. 💙

🗃️ What’s in the trove:
From 1910 to today, our archives hold photographs, scrapbooks, yearbooks, letters, and even class pins, graduation robes, and old sports uniforms—a true time capsule of campus and community life.

👀 How you can help:
We’ll soon be launching drop-in sessions where alumni, community members, students, and staff can help identify faces, places, and moments from UMM’s past. Stay tuned for the schedule!

It's alumni reunion day 2025!! We thought we would wrap up our alumni love stories for the year with our alumni board president, Kyle and his wife Mandie. 🎉

Kyle Pepperman and Mandie (Durrell) Pepperman met on campus in 2006. They soon became acquainted when Mandie joined Kappa Eta sorority in 2007 because Kyle was a member of the brother organization, Kappa Delta Phi fraternity. In the spring of 2009 they started dating and the rest is history.

Kyle and Mandie still live close by in the town of Marshfield with their two little boys. They both work for nonprofits in Washington County and love being part of the local community.

Micheal and Jessica Oram met on campus December 4, 2006 and have been together ever since. They got engaged in summer of 2008 and married on August 8, 2009. This meant they spent their first year of marriage living on the coed floor in Sennett Hall. It was the first year that Sennett opened up a coed floor where couples could live together and we were the first married couple to ever live on campus together in a shared dorm room. Jessica graduated in 2010 and Micheal ended up adding a second major and graduated later in 2013 just weeks before their first child was born.

They now have 2 children, ages 10 and 11. Jessica noted that they have been together for 18 years now and if they hadn't each gone outside at 2am to listen to someone play the guitar, they might not have met. “UMM holds a really special place in both of our hearts and we are forever grateful that's where we met.” 💚

Danielle (Cyr) and James (Jimmy) Morrell met in April of 1990 just before graduation at a Kappa Delta Phi Party. He had just pledged as a brother and Danielle had been a Kappa Eta sister since Fall 1988. What must have been a great evening turned into an engagement 6 months later on the Machias Falls bridge and they married in May of 1991.

Now, being married nearly 34 years, they have 2 grown kids, 5 grandkids and 2 dogs. They have resided in Georgia for nearly 30 years, living outside Atlanta. Danielle said they love living near their family in Georgia, but truly treasure their moments at UMM especially with their Greek brothers and sisters who they still visit and keep in very close contact with after all these years. “Life is good and we are truly blessed.”

In 2013 Haden and Jenny Brooks met in Sennett Hall just months after starting their first year on campus. During Thanksgiving break Jenny went home to Windham, Maine and Haden to Easton, Massachusetts where they endlessly texted and talked on the phone the entire break.
In their time on campus they each became Presidents of their respective Greek Organizations, Psi Delta and Kappa Alpha Kappa.

Today, Haden and Jenny have been together for 11 years and married for 6. They have welcomed two children together and enjoy continuing to write new chapters in their story. They are thankful for Machias for bringing them together!

Dave and Lynette Dube met in their first week on campus in fall 1990. They hung around the same friends and started dating that December. Lynette became a sister of Kappa Eta and Dave, a brother of APO. He was an Environment major and Lynette Behavioral Sciences.

Six years later they got married and have 2 beautiful daughters, now grown and have made a home in Middletown Connecticut. Dave is a Plan Manager with Voya and Lynette an Eligibility Specialist with the Department of Social Services with the State of Connecticut. They spend a lot of their summers in Maine at camp and even brought their daughters to campus a few years ago to show them where their love story started 35 years ago. 😍
