Cobe Blackmond and Caiden Strenz graduate on Saturday. Cobe has spent the second half of this semester working for Chicago Sports Network while finishing his last semester. Caiden has been interning with the Louisville Bats during his last semester while also traveling to the NCAA basketball tournament as a journalist and working the OVC basketball, softball and baseball tournaments. Throughout their time at WIU they were extremely active in multiple facets of the BC&J program. They sat down with our Sports Production Coordinator, Baldwin Martinez, to share their stories and advice for students in WIU's Broadcasting Program.

Last week Caiden Strenz and Mason Kelly, along with sports advisors Baldwin Martinez and Will Thomas worked broadcast production for the Ohio Valley Conference softball tournament. The days were long, but the experience was well worth the effort. Next week a couple of them will attend the OVC baseball tournament. You can watch the productions on ESPN+.

Today’s class challenge: call a baseball sequence while random words have to be worked into your announcing⚾️🎙️😅

It sounds silly (because it is), but it’s training for real things: staying composed, keeping your sentence structure clean, recovering fast when you lose your thought, and still sounding like you belong on the call.

We’ll have fun in here, as long as we keep it professional. And honestly? These reps make the real broadcasts feel easier.
