Dear Brothers,
Happy New Year! 2016 was a great year, and a lot was accomplished. First of all let me thank all the brothers that donated to the 1972 Fund! We had 40 brothers donate a total of $3,800. With this money, we paid Lowell Oxtoby $4,000. This TOTALLY paid off Lowell. When I took over being Chapter Advisor in 2002, we owed Lowell $45,000. It took us 14 years, but mission accomplished. A BIG thank you to all of the Alumni who have donated to the House Corporation, and to the 1972 Fund!
In 2016, we also paid off the second mortgage. So once again we own the shelter free and clear! The House Corporation also completed a couple of projects. The front room downstairs was remodeled and re-wired. A big thank you to Nick Tomich, Ben Roza and Wyatt Svedin. These three did most of the work on the remodel. Over Christmas break this year the main floor bathroom was gutted and new wiring and some new plumbing was installed. We had to do this because the sub floor had become unsafe and for safety reasons had to be replaced. It came out great! We will use it as a woman's only bathroom for Luau. Hopefully some of the wives and girlfriends will appreciate this!
The 1972 Fund has become a great way for alumni to donate and make sure funds go to a specific project or goal. I am finishing up details with our bank to accept both one time or monthly donations. By the time March rolls around these two new ways to donate should be up and running. If you are interested in donating by credit card, please let me know and I will send you the paperwork you will need.
Since we have paid Lowell Oxtoby off, our next project is a water sprinkler system. The state of Illinois passed a law that states ALL Greek housing must have a sprinkler system by January 1, 2019. The cost to the House Corporation will be between $40,000 - $50,000. I will have an estimate by Luau 2017. The House Corporation plan is to use all 1972 Campaign funds for this project. We are also looking into a golf outing in the Chicago area to raise more funds. Montana Thompson, Dean Chudy, and myself are working on this project. I will get that to you via email and on Facebook as soon as possible.
Lowell's Luau 2017 will be on Saturday, April 29th. House Corporation meeting will be at 1:00 pm that day. Please come and help us celebrate 45 years at WIU!
Hope to see a lot of my brothers in Macomb, at the shelter, celebrating 45 years!
Fraternally,
Brother Steven "Pugsly" Roon #122
