Great Job Haley! We’re proud of you! 🎉

We celebrated our newest Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta MFT Scholars last week! Previous recipient Haley Waters spoke about how the program prepared her to serve children in rural Georgia—and announced she’ll soon begin work as a therapist in Pike County. We’re proud of Haley and all our Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scholars who are turning their training into impactful care for rural communities.

Dr. Shantay Mines is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Mines holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University and an Ed.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seton Hall University. Licensed to practice in California, Florida, and Montana, his therapeutic approach is deeply rooted in Lewin's Heuristic Equation of Behavior, which explores the interplay between individual behavior and environmental influences.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, Dr. Mines integrates cognitive-behavioral therapy, family systems, Black feminist thought, and African-centered frameworks to address complex issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, racial trauma, and eating disorders. His practice is informed by his dedication to understanding the impact of race, culture, gender identity, and other aspects of diversity on mental health and relationships.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Mines is an avid researcher. His interests include African-centered Black Psychology, racial trauma, PTSD, and relationship functioning. A passionate educator and speaker, he offers unique insights into the intersection of psychology and family therapy, empowering professionals to consider holistic and culturally inclusive approaches.

When he's not practicing or teaching, Dr. Mines enjoys traveling the world, exploring different cultures, languages, and cuisines—bringing a global perspective to his work and personal life.
