In the late 1925, a group of Omega Men, consisting of educators on the campus of Fort Valley State College, began discussing the possibilities of forming an Omega Chapter in the Middle Georgia area. In December of the same year, they formally petitioned the fraternity for a chapter. The Supreme Council, under the leadership of Grand Basileus George L. Vaughn approved the petition and the charter w

as granted, thus the birth of Lambda Phi Chapter was achieved. The Lambda Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi was founded January 9, 1926 by Brothers William A Davis, William Frayser, Clarence Moore, Dr. C. E Dyer and L. R Bywaters. The Chapter was Charter on January 26, 1926 as Lambda Phi Chapter- Fort Valley, GA. However, in a need to service the brotherhood in the Middle Georgia Area and beyond, the Chapter received a second Charter on March 9, 1926. The Lambda Phi Chapter was re-Chartered as the Macon-Fort Valley Graduate Chapter. This marked a significant moment in the history, because Lambda Phi became the first African- American Greek Letter organization in the Middle Georgia Area. Lambda Phi Chapter was the first Black Greek Letter Fraternity organized in the Middle Georgia area.

On April 18, 2026, Fort Valley State University featured the Chapter Anniversary Commemorative Program for the Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Current and past chapter members and distinguished guests celebrated 80 years of Brotherhood, Service, and Excellence. Brother Dr. Vernard Hodges was the keynote speaker,
a graduate of Fort Valley State College and a member of Upsilon Sigma, 1-US-89. Dr. Vernard Hodges is a current member of the Lambda Phi Chapter.
The Lambda Phi Chapter, in its 100 years of service, played an intricate part in many of the successes of the undergraduate chapters in the Middle Georgia area.

Walton, Jr. & Omega Scholarship, created to support deserving Middle Georgia high school seniors who are preparing to take the next step toward higher education. This opportunity is open to graduating seniors who plan to enroll in a four-year university and are willing to interview with the scholarship committee as part of the selection process. Qualified applicants should demonstrate readiness for college and a commitment to academic advancement as they transition from high school to a university setting. Interested students are encouraged to apply before the March 31, 2026 deadline and take advantage of this meaningful investment in their future.
