Today is International Pride Day and the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising of 1969. Events that took place on this day 54 years ago, ignited a new level of LGBTQ+ activism.

Here are a few pioneers who advocated and brought awareness to issues facing LGBTQ+ communities. There are so many more people fighting for equal rights and there is still a lot of work to be done. But today we celebrate the courage, progress, and continued strive for equality in LGBTQ+ rights.
