Drew University Theological School invites applications for a tenure-track position in the History of Christianities at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in August 2022. A passion and ability to teach decolonizing approaches to pre- and early modern Christian/religious communities and thought will be essential for this position. We seek a versatile, engaging scholar-teacher with a deep ability to mentor masters-level students (MDiv, MATM, MAR, and STM), most of whom are pursuing ministerial vocations in congregations, social advocacy, or chaplaincy; to contribute to our large DMin program; and also to serve as a resource for students in our three PhD programs (Bible and Cultures; Theological and Philosophical Studies in Religion; and Social Ethics).
The successful candidate will have the capacity to work effectively with an exceptionally diverse student body. Whether team teaching across disciplines in the required MDiv courses or designing innovative electives in their areas of specialization, they will explore approaches to coloniality/decoloniality that include robust engagement with our faculty-shared values: attention to matters of race/ethnicity, gender/sexuality, ecology/ecojustice, and multireligious relationships in their complex intersections with Christian histories. The teaching load for the position is four regular courses distributed over the academic year, plus a fifth course or the equivalent in other forms of mentoring.
