You will be missed, Norma Kropp!
Retiring Paralegal Studies/Legal Services Chair (Norma Kropp, ACP, SBWCP) leaves behind a legacy
Valentina Ahedo, a Madison College Vice President and close colleague & friend, shared the following with the College community. Tina could not have said it better, so I am reproducing here to share with you.
Norma Kropp, Paralegal Studies program director, retires at the end of December. We want to take a moment to recognize her for her efforts and accomplishments in her 15 years here at Madison College. You may recognize Norma's name from earlier this year, when she was recognized for winning two lifetime achievement awards. For those who don't know Norma, she is an innovator dedicated to legal justice and empowerment. As a big-picture thinker, she worked to find solutions to seemingly wicked problems. She leveraged her expertise in the legal sphere to help found Madison College’s Legal Clinic, which in collaboration with Ascendium Education Group, Inc., became the model for Lawyers for Learners, a program helping clear legal obstacles for students pursuing their programs. Thousands of students at the College - and community members - have been served since its inception. There are also plans for this program to continue expanding to students and colleges state-wide.
Of course, these commitments were in addition to her everyday work including teaching, directing the Paralegal program, placing paralegal interns, developing bachelor's degree completion pathways for our students, coordinating and offering free estate and will planning clinics for the community, marshalling students to their seats at graduation, and coordinating immigration resource fairs, among other endeavors.
In appreciation and recognition for her commitment, collaborative spirit, hard work and optimism, Ascendium Education Group, Inc. recently held a special luncheon for Norma at their Madison headquarters. Members of the founding Legal Clinic/Lawyers for Learners group helped celebrate Norma’s many achievements, whether running a highly acclaimed paralegal program or helping remove barriers to students’ educational and training goals.
There is no doubt of her impact. Congratulations Norma, and best wishes as you move on to the next great chapter!
