Associate Professor Jennifer Golden is receiving a new grant from the National Institutes of Health to further her research into treatments for rare but deadly diseases!

Through a $3.8 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Associate Professor Golden and collaborators are developing a targeted therapeutic for Naegleria fowleri — a rare "brain-eating amoeba" with a 97% mortality rate and no approved treatments. https://bit.ly/4xuNPyK

Here they are: the UW–Madison School of Pharmacy's Class of 2030!

Their orientation last week had a little of everything, including CPR training, team-building games, tie-dyeing, and getting those white coats ready for their upcoming White Coat Ceremony.

All that's left: kicking off the fall semester on Wednesday! We can't wait for Rennebohm's halls to be abuzz with future pharmacy leaders.

When Mehran Yazdanian (MS '88, PhD '90) was a grad student at the School of Pharmacy, he and his peers assumed proteins would never be a big market.

A few months into his first job after graduating from the School of Pharmacy, Nick Capote (MS '17) faced a nationwide IV fluid shortage after hurricanes knocked out production in Puerto Rico.

"Patient care couldn't stop because the supply chain did," he says.

Now executive director of specialty and ambulatory pharmacy at Boston Medical Center, Nick leads medication access, specialty pharmacy, and infusion services for one of the nation's most complex safety-net populations, while precepting residents with the advice his own mentors gave him: optimize for learning, not titles.
