UW-Madison Global Health Institute - GHI

UW-Madison Global Health Institute - GHI Equitable & sustainable health for people, animals, and ecosystems—across Wisconsin & the world.

The UW-Madison Global Health Institute advances equitable and sustainable health across Wisconsin and throughout the world. We view the health of individuals and populations through a holistic context of healthy places upon which public health depends–from neighborhoods and national policies, to the state of the global environment. This approach requires collaboration from across the entire campus

to address health care, food security and sustainable agriculture, water and sanitation, environmental sustainability, and “one health” perspectives that integrate the health of humans, animals and the environment. In essence, the GHI addresses the intertwined root (or upstream) causes of ill health across sectors to discover more sustainable strategies for human well-being.

This month, UW–Madison Student Affairs celebrates Middle Eastern North African (MENA) Heritage Month on campus with the theme of “Constellations of MENA.”

The theme highlights the beauty that emerges when the cultures of the Middle East and North Africa are seen not in isolation—but in unity. Each tradition, language, and history is a star. Threaded together, they illuminate stories that connect us all.

Happy International Women's Day! GHI celebrates and honors all women who work hard to make the world a better place.

GHI and UW–Madison colleagues traveled to India last year and were invited to a Women's Celebration in Gujarat, which drew more than 2,300 local women to celebrate learning and earning achievements through Pidilite’s CSR training programs. The presentations included a request by GHI’s Communication Director Katie Newcomb to take the crowd’s photo with the infamous UW “W.”

The result was inspiring, and photos were captured by both Newcomb, and Lora Klenke, Managing Director of International Advancement with WFAA (and a member of GHI's Advisory Committee).

Delegation members agreed this was a rare, once-in-a-lifetime shared experience and were humbled by Pidilite's warm hospitality and the women’s welcoming spirit and enthusiasm for growth, learned skills, and celebration of shared accomplishments.
