"Cultivating Connections" pairs high school and college Asian American students for mentorship on the Asian American diaspora.

Wisconsin Idea Fellows Max, Amber, and Maisha paired high school and college students based on their personal backgrounds and future aspirations to facilitate trust and comfort in the mentorship program.

Through meals, gathering, and mentorship, “Cultivating Connections” aims to go beyond cultural identity, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity.

While currently immersed in a two-year program in Western Kenya with the United States Peace Corps, Badger alumni Emily Merkel ‘22, discusses how this experience has furthered her love for new community, her Morgridge Center roots, and the beauty within helping others.

A former Morgridge Center peer advisor and Badger Volunteer, Emily Merkel has spent the last six months in Kenya as a community health outreach volunteer with the Peace Corps.
