Signals in Flux is an immersive installation that translates environmental data from a year of satellite data, captured by NOAA-21, a joint NASA/NOAA satellite system, into a dynamic field of light and sound.

In this iteration of the Signals installation, a year of North American wildfire data involving luminosity, frequency, and temporal fluctuation is rendered into dynamic visual outputs through Max/MSP Jitter and paired with a spatialized soundscape.

This Saturday, May 10th at 12:30pm, it’s Live from the : The Planets, a piano duo by .brenner and , including original film works by , Charlie Borowicz, Philip Denvir, , and MFA Candidates , , and .

In the wake of ’s recent journey around the far side of the moon, pianists Deirdre Brenner and Sibila Konstantinova present a multimedia performance exploring our collective relationship to the galaxy. The concert combines the original 2-piano version of the celebrated seven movement work, The Planets, by composer Gustav Holst (composed prior to the better known orchestral version), with a world-premiere 2-piano arrangement by of “Tectonic” from her Earth Suite, composed originally in 2018 for the Concert Orchestra.

Each movement of the program will be presented alongside an original video exploring the ideas which inspired these compositions. Tabakova writes, “the overwhelming force of Nature” is at the heart of the concept of her Earth Suite, while Holst was inspired by a deep interest in astrology.

This free event will also be streamed live, find out more at: music.wisc.edu/event/live-from-mwsom-the-planets/

By merging printmaking, painting, and collage, MFA Candidate and 2025-2026 Tandem Press Studio Project Assistant Kate Goodvin creates monumental self-portraits that chronicle the evolving story of becoming. Her work is shaped through the perspective of a Gen Z woman growing up amid the digital transformation of contemporary life and coming of age during a period marked by increasing uncertainty. Goodvin’s practice examines how distinct eras of our lives are shaped and defined by pop culture movements, media saturation, music, and the broader political, environmental, and sociological climates that surround us. Deeply personal and rooted in self-discovery, she looks inward to uncover reflections of a broader shared condition, capturing the intimate process of navigating identity in a rapidly shifting world.

The Art MFA Qualifier Exhibition season continues with Kate Goodvin's art exhibition. The qualifier solo exhibitions are presented by the graduate students during their fourth semester as the evaluation review of their creative work to qualify for advancement in the MFA program. Come view the work and research by our newest cohort of developing artists!

This exhibition is supported by the Anonymous Fund.
