Collaboration fuels innovation—and the 2026 Midwest Entrepreneurship Conference (MWEC), hosted by the University of Nebraska–Omaha, showcased exactly that.

Dakota State University’s Trojan Entrepreneurship Club represented DSU at this regional event, engaging with entrepreneurs and innovators focused on turning ideas into real-world impact. It’s a strong example of how DSU students take initiative, build connections, and lead beyond the classroom.

Our students WON NATIONALS!!

Dakota State University took 1st place at the 2026 National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, finishing ahead of the University of Virginia and Western Washington University.

Congratulations to Diksha Janaki, Malachi Reynolds (Captain), William Tilstra, Ihor Makhynia 🇺🇦, Sarad Gaihre, Brayden Borges, Kalen McNab, and Lia Schmidt. This team demonstrated exactly what it means to defend critical systems under pressure through technical skill, resilience, and teamwork.

Over two intense days, they navigated evolving cyber threats, maintained operations, and made real-time strategic decisions. Their performance reflects not only technical excellence, but the collaboration and determination that define the next generation of cybersecurity leaders.

A special congrats to coach Jackson Heiberger for his leadership and continued support throughout the competition, and to the mentors who helped prepare this team for success.

Proud day for the Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences at Dakota State University.
