What's the tick forecast this summer?
University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health researchers are tracking ticks across the state to predict when and where risk is highest. By combining field data with climate and environmental data, and your submissions from the community, they’re building tools to help the people and pets of Wisconsin stay safe outdoors.

While most people dread finding a tick stuck to their clothing or skin, Johnny Uelmen is literally beating the bushes for them.

From day one, veterinary students start building clinical skills: https://news.wisc.edu/hands-on-from-day-one/

Through the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine's OnWard curriculum, hands-on learning begins early — growing confidence and real-world experience with patients large and small.

Maggie Piel, a first-year student from Watertown, expected to spend much of her first year learning basic animal handling. Instead, she quickly found herself practicing injections, performing comprehensive physical exams and working directly with animals.

“I definitely feel like I have more of the building blocks as a veterinarian so that I will be good right out of school, rather than having to take a couple years to get into the groove,” Piel says.

Today, we pause to remember.

Memorial Union was built nearly 100 years ago as a tribute to Badgers who gave their lives in service to our country. That legacy continues through the Gold Star Honor Roll, which shares the stories of UW–Madison students and alumni who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This Memorial Day, we honor them and all who served and did not return. View the Gold Star Honor Roll: https://www.uwgoldstarhonorroll.org

UW–Madison plant pathology professor Claudia Solís‑Lemus combines statistics and biology to reconstruct the Tree of Life — the extraordinarily complex web of histories and relationships that constitute the living world.

Her lab develops innovative tools that could allow researchers to answer big biological questions (like how do viruses mutate and spread?) in statistically and computationally rigorous ways.

Claudia Solis-Lemus PhD’15 and her lab bring statistical rigor to far-reaching biological questions. By Thomas Jilk When Claudia Solís-Lemus PhD’15 began her Statistics graduate program, she was leaning toward focusing on financial statistics. Then she attended a guest lecture from Professor an...
